The sky is falling one week too early

Recommended Posts

Heavens guys.  Just got done with C&F. Layering this morning in with the rest of the weeks content, you wouldn’t know we’ve spent most of the season as #1 and are 6-1.  Way too much doom and gloom about this team IMO.
Look, last week we ran in to a buzz saw. All of our experience, all of our speed…it’s still Vanderbilt guys. I’ll eat crow if I need to Saturday evening but I expect 2 things. Quinn is gonna deal and Texas is gonna roll.  Book it.

6-1 was the record most fans expected after the Georgia game with the one loss to Georgia.

It’s not the loss itself. It’s the fact there is now two games of evidence that our 3rd year QB is having a major regression both mentally and mechanically. People arnt super confident that that can be fixed by “trying harder” or “good week of prep” and they are looking at away games in Fayetteville and College Station a bit worried we are going to have this version of Quinn in those.

Hope you’re thrilled with the 6-1 though.

Life can be a real downer for the T-Shirt fans.  Losses happen.

That’s part of it. Quinn played great in game 1. Was the heisman front runner after Michigan.  Starts 14-16 before getting hurt. 73% overall. Takes off a month. Shows some rust vs OU but plays fine. Then hits the buzz saw and now people are like “he sucks”.  Just odd to me.

thats why I said a week too soon in the title though. Give the guy a little latitude.

We didn’t lose to UTSA. We lost to a team possessing quite possibly the most talented roster in the country.  It happens.

I viewed the OU game much different than you. I saw a quarterback that:

Was checking down sometimes before his first route was done.

A QB with diminished arm strength and velocity

I shocking regression in QB1 footwork.

A QB second guessing his ability to fit the ball in windows needed.

A QB not working up in the pocket but instead routinely backing out and over- this self sacking

These are things I expected  to (and did) see out of a first year player … Not a 3rd year “heisman candidate” … It was honestly shocking.  Then he followed that up with another performance of a similar caliber. Poor pocket awareness, weak armed throws, early check downs, not able to run mesh or slant routes because of slop footwork, self sacks… There were beater and men open but his picture is processing slowly right now. If it’s not somewhat concerning to you that’s very odd.

Sounds like you did not see any of his good throws, so .......  🤷🏻‍♂️

I am not a coach.  Expectations will always eventually lead to disappointments.  No one is perfect.

So we should all just approach everything with lower expectations that way we arnt disappointed.  You should implement that in your work place or tell your boss that if you work for someone.

Mostly self employed my whole life.  Few superiors lived up to my expectations.  Hence I formed my own practices as soon as I could.

Focus of the OP was not on Quinn. Let’s just agree for a minute that what you say is true, we are playing Vanderbilt with a significant advantage at almost every position.  Even if Quinn has a B- game available due to the injury hangover, we take care of business.  He doesn’t need arm strength or the deep ball in this game.

I agree with that.

I think most people thought six and one would be the best record possible at this point in the season.

Some people predicted we may have a loss to OU or even Michigan as well prior to the season starting.

I think it’s OK to take a step back and see how the team responds. With the 12 team playoff, one loss does not end your season.

You are making too much sense for a member of the pom pom squad.
