bierce
And it hurt them right away. Michigan State missed the front end, but it got the rebound and putback. Bilas now lobbying for a deadball flagrant against Memphis.

bierce
Michigan State not attacking the ball, and Memphis just burning clock. Memphis timeout with 1:03 to go, 14 on shot clock, up 68-61.
bierce
Memphis didn't hit rim. Ball to Michigan State.
bierce
Memphis won by 8. Former Big 12ers scored 55 of its 71 points. Houston-Alabama game just had a play ending with 4 guys on the floor and Houston getting credit for a timeout. 36-34 Houston with Alabama ball and 19 seconds left. 22 fouls called so far. bierce
Two minutes into the second half with 5 more fouls called in the Hou-Bama game, 4 on the Coogs.
bierce
Ten fouls called in the first 4:42 of the second half. This is a war of attrition.

bierce
What a war going on in Vegas. 56 fouls called so far, and nearly all of them deserved. Houston up 2 with 4:30 to go and ball. Make that and ft coming after foul 57 called. Both teams in double bonus of course.
bierce
Ok, there was a not deserved foul. Bama driving down 2. Minimal glancing contact by defender. Two fts awarded. Now a tie game with 22 seconds left.
bierce
Alabama 85 Houston 80. ISU-Dayton tied at 79 with 2:20 left.
bierce
ISU pulled it out last night. A lot of good games today, starting with UConn playing for 8th place in the Maui tournament. Hurley's head will explode if UConn loses again today. A&M faces Creighton. Will be interesting to see how well they defend Kalkbrenner with Payne/Coleman. Memphis-Auburn will have bigs galore on the court, and Tyrese Hunter is on a hot streak, being 12/20 bta in the tournament. Memphis as a team is hitting 45.3% bta, and that has been against a very tough non-con schedule. Baylor, San Diego State, and Alabama are the only teams in the Pomeroy top 50 to have faced tougher competition so far. OU will start playing in the weirdly lit arena in Nassau in the Battle4Atlantis. I always hated that place for games on TV. Gonzaga and Arizona are the heavyweights there. OU plays Providence today. Other schools in the tournament are bigger in name than talent this year, but Louisville, Indiana, and WV are considerably improved from bad 2023-24 seasons. Future patsy opponents New Orleans and ArkyPB are playing at Baylor and Pacific. That'll push Memphis's NCSOS above Baylor's for sure. bierce
12:07 to go, and IU has more offensive rebounds (14) than defensive rebounds (11) and is getting crushed by Louisville 66-40. IU has made 14 fgs so far. Louisville has made 10 3s and 29 fg, shooting 60+%.
bierce
Indiana is ranked, btw. It is clearly undeserving of it. 70-40 and Louisville with ball.
bierce
Louisville 89 Indiana 61. Indiana went 10 possessions without a score in the second half before a Cardinal retaliated after being clobbered while making a layup. IU hit the technical ft. As a result of that game, Louisville and IU exchanged positions in Pomeroy. Louisville moving from 58 to 38, and Indiana dropping from 38 to 58. They will jiggle around a little as the day goes on, but that was kind of unique to see. Colorado tied with ISU in an all-Big 12 5th place game in Maui. 22-22 with 7:51 left. WVU trying to hang with Gonzaga. 27-23 Zags with 5:46 to go first half.
bierce
Colorado turnovers on four straight possessions gave ISU a 8-0 run. ISU now up 43-31. ISU with 6 steals, CU with 9 turnovers with 46 seconds to go in the half.

bierce
Mark Few angry, just not Hurley angry, about a foul call on a Zag player when he bit on a fake and the WVU shooter then jumped sideways to make contact. Three ft for DeVries. Teams had been trading single point leads. DeVries missed the first, so they still can. 2:50 left, WVU up one.
bierce
DeVries hit a three then got a steal and was fouled on the breakaway. He hit both ft, and this game is tied with 5.9 seconds left. Rather than save the timeout in case it couldn't inbound the ball, Gonzaga called timeout after the made ft. I thought that was dumb because WV called timeout after the first made ft, and Zags could have called their play in that huddle.
