Orngblud05 Posted yesterday at 01:51 AM Share Posted yesterday at 01:51 AM Never ever take the ball first. If you get a stop, you earn an extra opportunity to double up at the start of the 2nd half. If you don’t get a stop, your offense has a chance to respond.

Which is totally fair. I just trust our defense to get that stop to start the 3rd. But to be honest I could understand either decision. Austalgia Posted yesterday at 03:25 AM Share Posted yesterday at 03:25 AM Defer. We don’t start fast, and Quinn has a history of needing to settle into the environment. If we go 3 and out, or heaven forbid, turn the ball over we would be way behind the 8 ball. I know they start fast, but I trust our rested defense more than the offense starting well.

I believed in allowing the defense to take the field first and seeing if Ohio State could go the length of the field to begin the game. Gerry and Bobby sided with taking the ball and putting the offense on the field to start the contest, citing Ohio State's scorching hot starts to their Playoff games. What would you do given the decision? Defer. In the games started by Ewers from the opening game thru SEC title game we had the ball first in 8 games. The first possessions in those 8 games resulted in 3 interceptions, 2 punts, 2 missed FG and 1 TD. Co State 4 plays, PUNT Michigan 12 plays, MISSED 43 yd FG OU 3 plays INT Vandy 5 plays INT FL 8 plays, MISSED 51 yard FG Ark 5 plays, PUNT Kentucky 11 plays TD GA (SEC CG) 7 plays, INT

There can be no question given the results of either situation this season. Conversely, Texas has started on defense 6 times. Allowed one TD (Clemson), One FG (ASU after 3 and out block punt debacle). Texas is 4 TDs for 6 attempts when getting the ball 2nd to start the game and 1 TD for 9 attempts while throwing 4 INTs (Arch threw one too vs ULM) when getting the ball 1st. Anyone advocating for us to get the ball first is insane or has had their head buried in the sand.
