BlakeMay
If you had to tell someone coming in to Austin for a game. What are the "MUST DO" items on the list before the game. Place to eat, places to go, things to do?
Bobby Burton
Gameday for first-time folks: - Tailgate on LBJ lawn with friends. We can help you find a tent if it's just a couple of folks. - Walk campus, especially near the tower. Go to the Co-Op and get some gear. - Walk around the stadium near Bevo Blvd. If you're talking about Austin generally, that's more of a lifestyle choice IMO. In other words, would you want to go to bars and stay out late, or go to a nice restaurant with a date, or be outside and exercise, etc. Lots to do in Austin on game weekends, it all depends on who you are and what you like.
Hermanator
If you're a Texas Ex and haven't been to the Ex's pregame center behind the stadium then should pop in for a bit just to check it out. Crown and Anchor is a great pregame place of you get there early. This will be a bit off topic of game atmosphere but for later in the night after an early game Tiki Tatsu-Ya on South Lamar is a great experience. Have to make reservations though.
Moderators CJ Vogel Posted February 20 Moderators Share Posted February 20 Lots of fun, awesome spots. I was still trying to find my consistent spot up until last year. Tons of fun tailgates around the LBJ Library and can't go wrong with Longhorn City Limits performing out there too.
Jerry K
Start out at Matt’s El Rancho. Get a couple Rita’s and a large Bob. Head down to the stadium, park and head to Schultz beer garden for a drink and hang out with hundreds other Horn fans. At 2 hours and 15 minutes before kick off the team walks down Bevo blvd on the west side of the stadium. Then hang around the stadium. On the north end and northeast corner of the stadium there are more tailgate tents and most are friendly. If there’s kids the north end of the stadium has carnival rides. Allow 45 minutes to get into the stadium and get seated. If you’re in the north end of the city and don’t want to cross town for Matt’s El Rancho, El Patio is a cool little restaurant with lots of Longhorn history and really good enchiladas but get a beer their Rita’s just aren’t good imo.
