Report back on the town and the stadium.   Overall I have heard good things about both, but some have said they didn't like Starkville.  I have heard bad things about the cowbells- very annoying.  You may want to take ear plugs or noise cancelling headphones/earbuds.  Have fun and bring back a sweep for us.🤘

After graduating with an MBA my first job was in Houston. After just a few months my corporate employer sent me to live and work in Memphis.

I enjoyed going to SEC football games throughout the South over the next few years.

It was "back in the day," circa late 1980s. When Texas played "State" in Starkville I went to the game with Texas fan friends who came for the game and a long weekend in Memphis. Bobby has mentioned his experience attending that game. Longhorns were optimistic to open the season... think it was 1990 or maybe '91. Butch Hadnot decided to change his running style that day and it was a bad decision for the Longhorns.

Regarding Starkville, I remember thinking that MSU would be attractive to a certain kind of recruit. Kids who wanted a small town college atmosphere and a venue where they could totally immerse themselves in the student -athlete experience without many distractions.

Later I went to a baseball game in Starkville when MSU played Ole Miss and I thought the baseball experience was more enjoyable than the atmosphere State projected for football. I remember thinking if I had been a high school kid looking to play college sports MSU baseball would have been far more appealing than football and it seemed like Starkville to the MLB would have been more reachable than the NFL.

Glad I went and got to understand what MSU was like. Back then anyway it was a very small town and the fans were super loyal. And like all college rivalries they really didn't like the Ole Miss Rebels.

The cowbells were their signature thing. Didn't really bother me but I remember when the Longhorn Band used to rattle cowbells for first downs and big plays.
