SIAP: Early Signing Period Expected to Move

Good find.  I guess it helps for staffs not preparing for a conference championship game?

Yeah it definitely does for them but would think that even if they aren't prepping for one it's still taxing leading up to the final game of the season. If it's make it break time for a bowl game or a rivalry game the last week it would still be taxing trying to prep for both imo

Doing away with it would be even better.

Not necessarily imo. A lot more players want to enroll early so how do you counteract that? If there is no ESD you will still have to recruit through December to make sure they show up in January. No different imo than having a ESD or not

If you're going to have one have it before the season or do away with it.

Early signing day July 31st makes some sense, but with that you'd have to have the class fully evaluated and offered before they ever play a snap their senior year. It also wouldn't help as much as people think because with unlimited portal you'd still have to keep recruiting all of them the whole time anyway. Would love a change where portal only becomes available after you've completed 1 full season on the campus you signed with whether early or in February, but we all know there's no way for the NCAA to make changes without getting sued these days.

Recruits can enroll early without signing LOI.

Agreed. That's what I was saying. Even if you did away with ESD, you'd still have to recruit in December through December to make sure they show up at your school on January.

According to the Athletic it's expected to move to the Wednesday before the conference championship weekend. Not sure it helps much imo

Yeah the schedule is tough no matter where they put it. Greg Sankey is behind this move FWIW. And HS coaches are against the Summer signing as well , especially Texas HS coaches.

Many are afraid the HS kid will sign and then skip his senior year, then enroll early  etc. And Sankey mentioned that as well. He definitely wants to stay in good graces there ha for good reason, considering the SEC lives in Texas recruiting🤘
