It is quite literally why he will be scrutinized.

Ya think?

Just to bring you up to speed, my initial response was to a poster who couldn’t remember or never read posts regarding Vince, Colt or Sam during their training camps/exhibition games. I kindly pointed out there were loads back in the day.

What that had to do with their respective performances at Texas or how their NFL careers evolved is beyond me.

He's not an NFL QB. There were times last year like Kentucky and A&M games where he was just cratering and we had to completely take the air out of the ball. Even if he was Tom Brady mentally, he doesn't have the physical talent for that level either. Is what it is.

He arrived here as kind of a gunslinger who could make all the throws. He left here as.... not that. It's like the best parts of his game got coached out of him (not purposefully, I'm sure).

After the 2022 OU game, there was talk about how if he had been eligible for the draft that year, he might have gone number one overall. To go in the seventh round two years later is astounding. He was making throws in that OU game and in the first quarter of the Bama game that he never really made again.

Sam does not suck as an NFL quarterback. He is in year 5, was heavily pursued by teams after his rookie deal was up (he rightfully did not want to re-sign with Colts). Just because he isnt a starter doesnt mean he’s not good. Backup qb in the NFL is literally the dream job lol. I also think he has qualified for NFL Pension. For a college qb that was never viewed as a pro prospect, that’s damn good.

All I know about Sam is that he was 1-4 against OU and never won a championship.  Colt was 3-1 against OU and won a conference championship.  Vince was like 1-2 against OU and won it all.  Quinn was 2-1 against OU and won a championship.   Vince, Sam, and Colt were pro QBs but not elite.  Vince flashed.  Colt played some and Sam holds a clip board.  Quinn has played the second half of the first exhibition game.

Seemed to me he got gun shy after the first Bama game when Dallas Turner did him wrong, and later after the Houston hits and the oblique issues.  Never quite the same guy.

I definitely wouldn't agree with "It's like the best parts of his game got coached out of him".  More like "got knocked out of him by the hits he took"

I don't get the venomous attitude some have about QE. One OTF host blasted him over the weekend, even before the Sunday game. Might as well pull out the list of UFAs and ridicule them for getting cut from the CFL and having to sell cars or coach middle school. Bobby keeps reeling people back with a "I wish the best for Quinn" while people pile on.  I knew a Michigan fan back in the day bashing Tom Brady when he was drafted. Interestingly, stats were very similar:

Games played: TB - 29  QE - 37

Completion %: TB - 61.9  QE - 64.9

Pass TD/INT:  TB - 30/17  QE - 68/24

Passing yards: TB - 4,773  QE - 9.128

Team record: TB - 20-5  QE - 33-10

NFL draft: TB - 6th  QE - 7th

TB ended up being pretty good. Don't know if most Michigan fans hate on him for not winning a NC. I appreciate what QE did for Texas. Looking at the guys who left while he was here, could have been much, much worse. Quinn will probably be remembered for bringing Texas back from oblivion as a good college QB. If he's a career NFL backup making $1.2M a year, good for him. If people want to say he sucks, ok. That could be said of a lot of college or backup NFL QBs. Sam Howell/UNC, Malik Willis/Liberty, Taylor Heinicke/Old Dominion, Nick Mullens/Southern Miss, Tanner McKee/Stanford; all back-ups. Maybe they suck, I don't know. But maybe their college fan bases don't hate on them for it.

2 are retired and the other one holds a clipboard most Sundays. Would be a fun thread, amirite?

I loved Sam. But he also drove me nuts sometimes.

Colt is one of my all-time favorites at Texas.
