An interesting read on Cody Campbell from Front Office Sports…

https://frontofficesports.com/the-texas-oil-billionaire-leading-the-newest-college-sports-lobbying-effort/

Curious as to everyone’s thoughts on his idea(s).

Note: The article mentions the POTUS multiple times in this article, but we don’t care if you’re for or against him. No one cares. Please leave your politics out of my thread  😂

I think he is putting his money into something that he is passionate about.  Frankly, he is the first to take a visible, active stand.  While I don't necessarily agree with some of his conclusions or his focus, I applaud his effort.

Essentially, he is advocating that the current NCAA division 1 model is unworkable.  In fact, I think he is advocating that Division 1 should consist only of institutions that can support a certain "lifestyle" (defined: think SEC level money).   These "big-boy' institutions should then create their own organization.  If you can't pay the monthly dues, you can't join the Club!

Where he stops short (or doesn't have the vision) is dealing with non-football.  (the Big Picture)

All of this is just banter, unless, in the end, you have a 48 school (or so) group (the Big Boy Conference) that operates under its own set of rules.... for all the sports.   The org creates its own tv contracts and playoffs for all sports.  Basically, the group of 48 (BBC) becomes a true minor league for the NFL, NBA, MLBB, Olympic sports etc.  Sorry, the 355 Division 1 schools for basketball (the thousand pound gorilla) can go get their own TV deal....... I'm sure the Wichita State vs. Marquette game will get killer ratings!

For me, I am all in on the BBC concept.  So, I am pro Cody if he expands his scope.  I am anti Cody if is a football only guy.

That's essentially the same article that ran in USA Today a month ago.

The absolute craziest part of all this to me is what  nobody ever discusses- Cody Campbell is Tech’s NIL sugar daddy AND Chair of the Tech Board of Regents.

What a dangerous conflict of interest for TTU.

“That organization can be self-sustaining—and generate additional funding to protect Olympic and women’s sports—by pooling all Division I media rights to be sold together as one package, rather than separating them by conference and championship, as they are now.”

Of course he wants a piece of the SEC/B1G media pie. Tech will never be valuable on its own.
