Glass Joe Posted October 12 Posted October 12 35 minutes ago, 4thandFive said: That buyout is NUTS. It’s amazing what college football has become. A school paying a guy $50mil to go away. woof. Agreed, but I’m expecting an announcement this week that the B10 schools will be getting a $2B cash infusion via a private debt investment deal. That’ll be a fresh $125M cash into Penn State’s bank account, so this $49M is effectively already allocated from the investment. To your point though, it does mean $49M fewer is cash that could otherwise go to buying players (NIL) relative to the other football programs. Quote

Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted October 12 Moderators Posted October 12 Not saying I disagree with the decision at all at 0-3 in Big 10 ... 104-45, 5 top 10 finishes in last nine seasons, CFP appearance, multiple big NYD bowl game wins Next coach ... it's NC or bust ushering in the 16 team CFP ... Best of luck! But you will be paid 11-12 mill a year! 3 Quote

Also done well as a college head coach at each stop, not looking at what he did with the Carolina Panthers. 3 Quote

The straw that broke the camel’s back were the losses against UCLA and Northwestern, it was coming. Penn State should’ve fired Franklin after UCLA, looks like the team quit on Franklin. Quote

Raiola’s dad is a coach at Nebraska and he has one season left before going to the NFL. Stay at Nebraska and the leave for the NFL. Quote
SuperDave0805 Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Penn St is not an elite job anymore, Campus is in the middle of no where, State of Pennsylvania doesn't produce top recruits like it used to. Have to wonder if this works out for them the way firing Bo Pelini did for Nebraska? Quote
Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted October 12 Moderators Posted October 12 Matt Rhule is interesting ... he's from the Joe Pa/Jerry Sandusky era I would offer Marcus Freeman 14-15 mill a year first, and make him say no. 1 1 Quote

At some point, padding the win total against overmatched teams stops meaning much. When it comes to the games that actually matter, that’s where the expectation lies and he’s fallen short there far too often. If you can’t consistently beat top 15 opponents, it’s hard to sell the idea you’re building a national championship program. Good on Penn State for recognizing this. 1 Quote

He went 64-36 in the Big 10 Bowl game wins: Rose Fiesta (2) Cotton CFP first round So 69 to start before a non-con P4 win. I think he deserved it today, but my point is the next coach will have truly unrealistic expectations. The next guy is following a coach that had 5 top 10 seasons in 9 years, CFP W's, big NYD bowl game wins and won a lot. It's NC or bust type hire, and when CFB is about to begin a 16 team playoff. 4 Quote

Mike Elko is going to get a huge raise as well. To follow up on your post above, the amount these coaches are being paid it should be “natty or bust” expectations. Especially now that schools are asking for alumni to donate more and more for NIL. Edited October 12 by Hashtag 1 Quote
