We need to maintain a good relationship with a local team that manufactures talent, like Lake Travis, and publicly dragging the kid would probably not have gone over well with the LT coaches. No need to burn bridges. Just publicly state that the kid is still being recruited while telling him behind closed doors that he should look elsewhere.
