  • Chip Kelly Expected to Take Ohio State OC Job

    CJ Vogel

What a wild turn of events coming from Ryan Day's program.

As it looks currently, Buckeyes OC Bill O'Brien will head to Boston College to take over the head coaching job.

To fill the void, UCLA Head Coach Chip Kelly is expected to make the jump down to offensive coordinator according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.

What an unprecedented move here. New era of CFB.

That would be awesome. Not sure if the timing will work though. Not saying it’s not possible but it’s really late for a student to enroll at Texas this semester.

The April 15-30 portal window is when things will happen. Patience everyone patience

    I just can't believe this.

How bad a situation must UCLA be for coaches right now?

Agreed! Think about the new challenges they are facing trying to win a conference, when they couldn't overcome the Pac 12 competition. Now they are still hitched with the few great Pac 12 programs, but they have the new Big 10 teams to face. Not to mention the logistics nightmare of actually traveling to play road games.

    QB though?

I would add OL.. OSU has struggle there the last few years and bringing in the Chuck Knoblach of centers from Bama to help fix it is questionable

This is a great hire if Chip is the play caller IMO

Why would an active head coach take another job that is a step down? Makes me wonder about Chip Kelly. Coordinator jobs are usually taken by fired head coaches.

Over the last 6 years or so Ohio State is the Oklahoma of the BIG, they always have a stellar offense and win the conference more times than most. When it comes time to win a natty they poop the bed.

He saved Penn St after the Sandusky stuff hit the fan

He did. That helped him land the Texans HC position. All he did there is trade the best receiver in the league for a carton of smokes and a 12 pack of PBR. He set that franchise back and has been trash everywhere since.

It’s odd. What’s he going to do at Ohio State to really help himself? Ryan Day has had great offenses at Ohio State. It’s not like Chip is going to a defensive HC and will credit for getting them over the top, like Sark, Kiffen, or Monken (Georgia).

    Love the Chuck K reference.

I think this is a bad hire for Day.  I am not sure Kelly has the energy to recruit anymore. Kelly also does not like the NIL era right now.  Kelly also has not matched the success that he had at Oregon.  This could be disastrous for Day.
