  1. So because Sean Miller sacrificed assistants, and Will Wade was crucified himself, we won’t hire him? Yep, we’re above reproach.
  2. Then we need to rethink compliance. Period.
  3. Tell me why they would not sign off on him, but will Miller? Don’t tell me NCAA penalties assessed, that’s nonsensical to anyone with eyes and comprehension skills.
  4. @Gerry Hamilton I would love your take on why you don’t like the fit. Obviously you have some sourcing that is telling you he is pushing for the job, but not a good fit. Can you give us the reasoning/thought process behind that? I am open minded.
  5. I respect your insight, Gerry. From a winning in new era of CBB, I prefer the younger Will Wade. From a hoops perspective, I also prefer Wade. Has shown the ability to play faster (LSU and VCU) and also shown the ability to play slower, as he does at McNeese right now. Tempo matters greatly, as we are all aware, and what is important about their pace at McNeese is to see the recognition of having the better players on the floor all the time, there dictating the will of the game. Everyone always thinks the better teams want more possessions, but it is not true if you are overwhelmingly better. You want possessions controlled because it limits the ability to make mistakes from the team who is not as talented. On top of that, he is a hustler and someone who swings way above his weight class in recruiting everywhere he goes. Are we hiring a BB coach to win games in the SEC or are we interviewing candidates for Seminary? Wade is a guy that understands how to navigate this era, he knows the SEC and has won in it, and is young enough to have sustainability. I am also one who does not mind hiring someone who's flaws are out in open. I would much rather confront the devil I know, then the one who can pop up at any point.... ring any bells?
  6. I will say that, as long as the SEC would allow it, I would hire Will Wade as fast as I could and watch the success train take off.
  7. I mean no insult when I respond to this, but I am going to give you some basketball reality on those guys: Lloyd might be in play, but I seriously doubt it. West coast guy his whole life, at a school that LOVES and spends on hoops. Stylistically would not excite a bunch of people, usually plays at least 1.5 true bigs and his guards have been known to be inefficient chuckers. May and Otz - quit wasting air on them. 0% chance. May would only leave for IU, but probably will not. Otz is going to have the arena named after him. Cronin - very good basketball coach, always has success in tourney because of his style. Might will look because of travel in new big 10, do not see the fit for him here. Very abrasive. Jans - l o l. Stunned does not begin to describe what I would be if he was entertained. Good basketball coach, can win anywhere. Much better fit at a job like he has now. McCollum - while I agree he is not the best fit here due to lack of P4 experience, to say he plays boring offense shows you know nothing of his accomplishments and teams at NW MO State. 4 titles, 395-81. His teams consistently were some of the most cutting edge and dynamic offensive teams in the country, regardless of level. What you are seeing is him recruiting his guys, several of which do not have a ton of d1 characteristics and them playing slower, more methodical because of it (and lack of depth). He is a winner, and a helluva basketball coach. The oversight, recruiting and business side of being at Texas worry me about him. Not him as a coach.
  8. I haven't put enough legitimate thought into it to give a real list yet, but @bierce brought up a good candidate in Richard Pitino at UNM. I wrote up a summary of his offensive prowess after watching some film.
  9. Guys, and I mean this with all due respect for the person, coach and teacher Grant is, you do not want to hire him. That is not a good fit. It is not what will excite the fanbase, it is not stylistically what you want (for the most part) and I am not sure he would even entertain it, as he knows it isn't a good fit. Let him go to Baylor.
  10. Man, KU has spent a ton since NIL/Free Agency became a thing and it feels like, outside of Dickinson, they have whiffed a lot.
  11. Let's start with Pitino: Offensively, actually one of the more stylistically fun guys that has been mentioned. Primarily transitions and plays out of 4 out 1 in Dribble Drive Motion alignments. mixing in ball screens every now and again. Use a ton of Princeton actions as their early offense creates, also do a good job of pairing them with traditional DDM cutting actions at points (run two false motion handoffs to get into "forwards out" from Princeton, then run "wave" from DDM early in Boise game at home). Would be excited to see what he could do embracing this style at Texas with elite talent. In top 10 in country in tempo, which makes their offense look better on raw numbers than it really performs (81ppg). Primarily bases everything on a version of advantage based basketball, where they are using their actions to hunt mismatches on the ball in space, whether that be an iso drive to a big gap or a backdown in the post. Live at the free throw line, but one of the worst in terms of three point rate in country (333/364). Has evolved a ton since Minnesota, where I thought he did a decent job, and has built UNM back up after the debacle that was Paul Weir there. Offensively, I would be excited about Richard Pitino and the possibilities. Pair him with UT resources, could be a lot of fun.
  12. For those of you who are not hoops fans, if you want to know what trends are coming next, you can look to two areas: Offense: look at high level European basketball. That is where all the NBA guys steal their stuff, which creates the trickle down. Defense: look at the NBA. NBA coaches are 10 years ahead of any other league with their defensive stuff, yet all you ever hear is how teams don't play defense.
  13. Gerry, chill out. You're making too much sense. Don't you know the low shooting percentage/high turnover numbers in college are a much better product than the NBA's spacing and pace?!
  14. @Gerry Hamilton Drew to IU and Grant to Baylor makes a lot of sense. That scenario is easy to see coming, almost happened last year with Kentucky. IU makes more sense for him than Kentucky did. Grant's climb from awful, snail pace offense to being sixth in the NCAA in PPP this year is remarkable. Toppin has helped certainly, but have eben very impressed by his improvement tempo wise.
  15. @Gerry Hamilton let's speculate and give the people what they want. You give me a few guys that you think would be good options and I'll breakdown in plain english their style and approach to offense.
  16. The last line I agree with you on, but not for the reasons most of you think.
  17. The fact that you guys can’t differentiate between two separate issues is mind boggling to me.
  18. If all of you cared all year the way you care to comment when things go bad, we probably wouldn’t have the coach we have still or the roster problems we have right now.
  19. Terry doesn’t have an adequate enough NIL budget to win at a top 10 level.. agreed. hold him accountable for who he chose to spend money on and what they’ve produced? I’m becoming a bigger fan of that.
  20. You can only win so many games with guys who want to take pull up 15 footers.
  21. Oats was realistic like three years ago, maybe. He turned down Kentucky, no chance he comes here.
  22. Since no one had started a thread, I will start it. Two game losing streak, big opportunity at home. If you think we have no chance, you should call your local bookie very soon and pound Alabama (-4.5/-190 ML). How are we feeling?
  23. A lot of the OREB issues against Vandy stem from poor slide down rotations when the "Big" has to help on a driver.
  24. That is a rough statement to make, especially for all the flak he has caught for their lack of creativity offensively.
  25. Question: You guys struggled to score from the 10-minute mark on in the second half. Was there anything Vanderbilt did specifically, or was that more of you guys shots just not really following? Rodney Terry: I think we had some opportunities right around the basket. We also had some free throw opportunities as well. So wasn't a matter them stopping us. We had some opportunities and we don't make shots, so you don't get any points, you know. So, we had looks and good looks.
