  1. We’ve been getting A LOT of Jonah Williams questions lately, so I spoke with some sources regarding where things currently stand with him. Williams, an early enrollee, will be a two-sport athlete on the Forty Acres. He’ll attempt to balance both football and baseball, which is no easy task. Toward the end of football season, Williams fractured his clavicle on his left arm. Both staffs do not want to rush him and have been working to rehab that injury as efficiently as possible. One source close to the baseball program told me that there is no definitive timetable for Williams return. “I’m not sure. Hoping to be cleared for some stuff and we’ll go from there,” said the source. Williams is doing certain work outs trying to balance being in both baseball and football shape at the same time. He also works with both the football and baseball staff at different parts of the day. As for where he’ll end up on the diamond, I’ve been told that will all work itself out as he continues to get healthier. On the mound or in the outfield are the two options, but the quicker path to earlier playing time will be pitching… for now.

  3. Austin – No. 4/3/3 Texas Football junior QB Quinn Ewers was named to the Davey O'Brien Postseason Great 8, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced Wednesday. Ewers was honored for his performance against fourth-seed No. 10/10/12 Arizona State in the CFP Quarterfinal/Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, a game in which he led the Longhorns to a 39-31 overtime victory on January 1 in Atlanta. In that game, he completed 20-of-30 passes for 322 yards and three touchdowns in addition to scoring a rushing touchdown. With the game in the balance, Ewers threw critical touchdown passes on consecutive plays in the overtime sessions. The first was a 28-yard score to WR Matthew Golden on fourth-and-13 in the first overtime that tied the score at 31-31 and kept Texas alive after Arizona State had already scored on its possession. On the next play in double overtime, Ewers found TE Gunnar Helm for a 25-yard touchdown that turned out to be the game-winning score after DB Andrew Mukuba intercepted a pass on the Sun Devils' possession to end the game. Ewers' first touchdown pass provided a 7-3 lead and came on the second offensive play of the game for the Longhorns, which was a 23-yard score to WR DeAndre Moore, Jr. Prior to that, the first offensive play had been a 54-yard pass to Golden to set up the touchdown. Ewers later rushed for a five-yard score that put Texas up, 24-8, early in the fourth quarter. A second-team All-SEC performer and finalist for the Manning Award, Ewers completed 293-of-445 passes (65.8 percent) for 3,472 yards and 31 touchdowns while averaging 248.0 yards per contest in 14 starts this season. Ewers finished sixth in the FBS in passing touchdowns (31), 14th in passing yards (3,472), 14th in points responsible for (202), 25th in passing efficiency (149), 26th in passing yards per game (248.0), 26th in completion percentage (65.8 percent), and 27th in completions per game (20.93). Ewers, who has completed his collegiate career after declaring for the NFL Draft, closed his time as a Longhorn on a 27-game passing touchdown streak – the longest active streak by an FBS quarterback and the second-longest streak in program history behind Colt McCoy's program-record 29 games. The Southlake, Texas, product finished third in the program's record book in both passing touchdowns (68) and passing yards (9,128), and second in most 300-yard passing games in a career (11).

  11. Both Max Belyeu and Jalin Flores have been named to the D1 Baseball Preseason All-American Team. Last season, Flores was .340 at the plate, with 82 hits, 22 doubles, 18 home runs and 56 RBIs. Belyeu, who is a potential first round pick in the MLB draft, averaged .329 with 69 hits, 15 doubles, 1 triple, 18 home runs and 53 RBIs. Both look to play a major role in the Horns' success this season.
