I'll give credit to Sark for having the opportunity to upgrade and taking it. Additionally, he recognized Akina was a bad hire and rather than persist he failed fast and got rid of him. I'd be curious to understand how much of the defense's struggles this season can be laid at Akina's feet. A lot of Texas DB alums have positive things to say about Akina as a coach but as Jeff's post points out when Akina was given coordinating responsiblity in 2007 things collapsed then as well. It also appears he wasn't popular almongst the players either. Onward and upward

It’s not happening. We’ll get into the top 12 but b/c of the 5 auto bids we’ll be left out with who’s above us and previous committee actions. They’ll use us being ranked 11/12 as a get out of jail free card but we still got screwed.
