  1. Yea before my time for sure but that’s an impressive co-sign to say the least
  2. Sheesh yea that’s probably a nightmare 7on7 matchup lol
  3. Azubuike was a beast! Real ones remember him
  4. I get your breakdown of the evaluation piece in terms of position coaches, but I’ll still push back on the coaching aspect of it because then it wouldn’t matter where any of the top recruits in the country go. If what you’re stating is correct, then every 5 star d lineman should be a 1-2 round pick, 4 stars should be drafted or at least make a camp team & then throw in the occasional 3 star. Now of course most of the nfl d lineman are former 5 & 4 stars but what is the hit rate out of those players? If we take those things into consideration with the traits, mental Eval & s&c, then I think there is still a good 20% at least (not having done the actual math) in terms of coaching. There are certainly exceptions & players that are high in categories 1 & 2 are oftentimes drafted solely because of those traits I get it. But coaching matters to an extent. I’m not going to say Bo was the sole reason those guys made the league. He did play a part though & that’s coming from those players mouths. They know what it’s like working under Bo vs not & they seem to think he had an impact on their careers.
  5. Also, this could completely be just me coping but I don’t think Zion is really a must get for me. I think he’s plenty big & talented but I think the out of state guys were recruiting are just better prospects.
  6. I mean what happened with those guys they recruited over there? I guess chucking huge amounts of money for talented kids who are looking to get paid equates to great recruiting these days.
  7. If we’re talking about over 10 years ago then we might as well talk about Les Miles & Nick Saban. What are we doing here? Also, if we’re talking development, then it doesn’t matter if you recruited them personally or not. That’s completely irrelevant to developing players. If a player is at a certain level before a position coach gets there & then said player gets better after the position coach is there, is that just a random roll of the dice? Or can that be attributed to the coach who came in & made the player better?
  8. You guys do realize that the recruiting aspect is not always down to the position coach right? Texas is just now entering the SEC & has been mired by mediocrity for over 10 years. Nobody walks into that situation & recruits at a high level instantly in his first year, especially with that record on the field. Then he beat out a high level charge from Georgia for Sydir, which at the time was lauded as a coup for Bo to keep him in the fold. He hasn’t lived up to it yet, & it doesn’t always click right away, but the talent was huge. Now with this class, Robinson would have been a great get for us if he didn’t bolt & had Brown committed to us, plus Zion Williams leaning us before he bolted in the 24 class. So the whole narrative he couldn’t recruit here is far too overblown. He missed on some guys but had a lot working against him early. Also, the development piece is clear as day. He developed Koburn & Ojomo into better pros than they were before. Sweat of course & Murphy was not an NFL lock before Bo. He was always a dog but he has talked multiple times about how Bo’s influence made him as good as he became. You can list the facts all you want, but without proper context it’s not very relevant. Bo wasn’t perfect & could have recruited better, but to say he wasn’t a good recruiter doesn’t paint the full picture.
  9. I think LSU would have been the pick July 4th, even if he had made it in this weekend. I think the later visit during the season actually helps the efforts to flip late.
  10. Yikes. In high school JT could sling it
  11. Yea major league talents at the high school level, especially at pitcher just make everyone else look so helpless
  12. I know it’s becoming more normal now for high school but 10.1 speed in 1990 is unbelievable
  13. He’s a MONSTER
  14. Wow that’s crazy. & the juco route so tough to navigate too.
  15. To answer my own question here, I actually played basketball & that was my main sport. Parents weren’t too keen on the football thing. I’m also from NY so football takes a back seat to basketball here. So this is one for @Gerry Hamilton in particular. But the best I’ve seen was in an AAU tourney in high school. I was actually injured at the time so thankfully I didn’t play in this game lol. Mo Bamba & Hamidou Diallo’s team. Bamba was impossible to score against because floaters were never high enough & back then he was so mobile before he put the extra muscle weight on. They played a 1-3-1 zone the whole game & I believe won by like 60.
  16. Yea Roquan a beast. Was he a 5 star out of high school? & yea the grades thing held back a lot of talented guys
  17. I’ve always said that for whatever reason, the guys who were the most talented or the ones everyone thought would make it usually struggled to make it & then other talented but less talented at the time would blow up.
  18. Saw this on the live stream from the other day & think it’s a fun exercise. Who is the best player you played against in high school? Focus is football but would love to hear some basketball & baseball shout outs too!
  19. Super underrated comment to those who know 😂 considering he’s at Florida I’m sure some portal tampering will be in effect at some point in his career from the guys in Tallahassee.
  20. First picture from this weekend that I’ve seen him throw the horns up!
  21. I actually think FSU will have a good season again because Norvell is a really good coach, but I agree with everything else! Also, I can see why they put USC 25 right now because I’m not sure who else they can rank looking at the teams missing out lol
  22. I agree. Very interesting with the playoff expanding. I think the expectation will always be a natty at Texas so being an elite program could be a moot point if the fan base has dynastic expectations. I will say that if we compare to Notre Dame over the last 7 years, the biggest difference in the fan base & even national perception will be QB play. If we consistently have a top 5 QB in the country under Sark, which I believe we will, then “national championship or bust” will be a common narrative. Being elite from a national pov means winning a championship. That will be so important in recruiting. Even though Texas will always recruit well & even more so now in the SEC, if Ohio State, Bama (under DeBoer), Florida St, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU, USC, etc win a national championship in the next 5 years & Texas doesn’t? That will be the difference between being Notre Dame or Saban’s Bama/Smart’s Georgia. I mean Dabo’s Clemson has fallen off recently but that 5 year run they had from Watson to Lawrence at QB I would take in a heartbeat too lol.
