OTF Premium Reshuffling on the OL (Monday 1:50 p.m.)
closetojumping replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Your antagonism here is just bandwidth drain at this point. The rest of the board doesn't care.. Show the therapist on the doll where you think I may have touched you and things will eventually get better. For me, you're now on ignore and I'm happy living with the idea that "pinkman_90" doesn't like me and really needs me to know that. -

I don't know why you quoted me here. -I've never been a big fan of the portal for OL help. There is not a post of mine on the Internet since Sarkisian's arrival where I've stated that Texas should go big in the portal. -I liked the Goosby take at the time due to his athleticism and the fact that that class was going to have trouble landing a 5 star OT with Banks already starting as a freshman. -I don't think I've ever typed the name "Pregnon" on this site until right now. Texas kicked the tires on him but Oregon was willing to pay starter money and it didn't make a lot of sense for Texas to do anything there. Portal talk about the OL is all hindsight nonsense. Flood doesn't want to build via patchwork from random G5s, FCS and P4 backups. There aren't a ton of good starting OL in the portal and those that are there cost an arm and a leg. If folks want to level a criticism at Flood, it's not taking enough OLs in the past few cycles. I'm not one of those people saying that, but I understand the logic coming from folks. I'm not some boogieman here, wishing ill will on the program or running down coaches. You guys think you sense a whiff of criticism at a coach or staff and y'all lose your minds. It's absurd. In any event, I got my question answered, if not from the original guy here with the story. Goosby's injury is something to watch for the OSU game. Can he play through the pain and then heal up before UF? Or is there going to be patchwork without him? Either way, it's not nothing and he could very well miss a lot more time than "the next few practices". -

Like I said, you have no clue, and you just proved it. That remains the only irony here. -

Like I said, you have no clue. You've now called me a liar and fraud, however, without anything to support that. I don't get the personal attacks since I don't recall ever encountering your handle, but that kind of crap is more spineless forum behavior, for which you appear to excel. I don't really care if he really wanted me to kill myself or not. The mere act of telling someone to do so, however soft or indirect, is pathetic nonetheless. -

The only irony here is you not having a clue about what you think you're mocking. I don't follow posting styles on this site much, but if you're serious, yes, thanks. If not, so be it. -

I, along with a small set of a few others, have put my time, intellect, money and personal risk on the line to help Sarkisian turn this program around while most everyone else sat back and did nothing but offer the trusty ol' "thoughts and prayers" maneuver, almost certainly you included. I was not a fan of the hire in 2021. It didn't stop me from fundamentally helping the dude and the program, and I did so while most everyone sat back and did absolutely nothing to help turn things around. Go play your "nanny nanny boo boo, I'm a better fan than you!" card with someone else or maybe just dump it from your repertoire. It's a lousy forum trope in the first place. -

"trust thes corchez!?!" That's been a bleating plea on the boards for decades. It was screamed from the rooftops when anyone deigned to question OL recruiting and development with Mac McWhorter, or WR recruiting with Bobby Kennedy, or Strong hiring Shawn Watson or Herman signing like 3 OL per class. Yep. In any event, reading comprehension isn't taught well these days, I get it. Or maybe you had the flu that time during all of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade when they taught it back in the day. My question isn't of Flood maneuvering his OL. It's of the notion that if he is doing so, it's not for nothing. There's something bigger here with an injury on the OL. It's obvious. -

Super insightful. My point is that I don't trust Vogel's reporting on this. There's an injury issue here, so don't tell your readership that there's nothing to see here. -

Look, I understand the personality of this forum. It's mod-driven and generally involves an undying faith in the coaches, whoever the coaches may be. People can't handle it when a poster offers a thought or question of their own that runs counter to the narrative or direction coming from the site staff and the coaching staff. It manifests in all kinds thoughtless ways from middle aged men who don't like loud noises or thinking on their own. This has been the case fromthe founding of Obloods and Rivals all the way to now, irrespective of whether it's a Texas site or a Bama site or a Cal site. That said, it's "you're", not the 6th grade misspelling rendered up by you here in the post quoted, and, yeah, you guys are doing the typical thread shrieking that occurs when someone actually gets critical, like at all. No one needs to go to practice to look at a situation and form a simple opinion about what a development may represent. I don't need to have seen the OL do work to know that moving 3 different starters off of their starting spot on the OL is simultaneously risking making all 3 positions worse. Maybe that was done for a few reps just to see how it would look? Cool. If it was done for the duration of the practice, then "oh it's just some reshuffling for a few days and there's nothing to see here with injuries (or some other off the field issue)" is a bizarre take. -

Yes. What’s your point? I’ve been invited to plenty, actually. Just put me in ignore and find someone else to clutch pearls over. I’m bound to eventually hurt your feelings again. Also, a) I chose the handle so handle smack is a bit silly, Ace, and b) telling someone to go kill themself is at a minimum poor form and likely a violation of the site’s TOS. -

Zero reps? No. But he's never been a regular at Tackle for reps. The guy is trying to make the starting rotation at Guard for a second consecutive season, for God's sake. Now everyone is just cool with the notion of him whipping over to OT for "manufacturing depth"? Right. -

I get it, dude, you've been told that there is nothing to see here, so, hey, nothing to see here. You have no clue whether Omeozulu makes any sense at Tackle whatsoever. He's rarely played Guard and was allegedly being pressed there. Now he's the next best option at LT after not repping there since HS? I guess, maybe, but what's happening here is removing gelling reps from 3 different positions because one has an injury that appears more serious than anyone is letting on. It's a bizarre move. The situation you reference last year was one made out of desperation. That's fine if that's the case here as well, but your initial post doesn't indicate that there's anything of concern. Anyone not looking at this and thinking, "huh, this is weird and probably raises some red flags" isn't actually thinking. -

You think that's what this is? Moving the starting LG and C to new spots because the starting LT is "hurt for a few days" is "manufacturing depth" to you? Okay then. They have Nick Brooks as a flex Tackle. Omeozulu hasn't taken reps at Tackle in 3 years. Now he's the fill-in LT if Goosby is down for awhile? The only reason this move, right now, makes any sense is because someone is more seriously injured than the staff is letting on to the public. There is no other rationalization that makes any sense and "manufacturing depth" certainly isn't one. -

Rule Changes Officially Approved for 2025 Season
closetojumping replied to Kevin C's topic in On Texas Football Forum
The change in question is in regard to letting FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) teams have the helmet communications. That rule will help Illinois State against OU in a few weeks, preventing Brent Venables from a last bastion of space for him to steal sideline signals. -
Um, what? Any time you are forced to cite a known and proven imbecile like Peter Burns to reinforce your position, it should alarm you that you are in the wrong position. An 8 game conference schedule in a 16 team league is a joke. It's basically indefensible without having to advocate for wanting a soft schedule. The FCS opponent stuffing in the SEC is also an embarrassment. Drop those games and UTEP for Texas and add 8 more conference slates and the sport is overall better off and the SEC will still get 4+ into a 16 game conference every year. Also, a number of these SEC teams have no business being ranked. -SCar has a great player on each side of the ball but lost a ton of talented experience. All of the sudden Shane Beamer's program just reloads? That's laughable. They return one starter from their defensive front 7, which was the team strength. He's great, but he's one guy. They also replace a high draft pick in the secondary and at LB. -ATM hasn't finished a season ranked in 5 years. They've only finished ranked twice in the last 11 seasons, and they've opened ranked in 9 of those years. They define overrated and their roster for this year says that continues. -Oklahoma is in the same boat as ATM. "But they had a lot of roster change! They brought in a hot shot QB!" They had the worst OL statistically in FBS last year "but all those guys return!" Right. -Tennessee has no business being ranked with their losses. They don't have an answer for the loss of Sampson, the conference's leading rusher and a key to their 2024 success in an offense predicated on rushing success. They also will be starting the former QB from ... App State. -Florida will finish the season unranked. Lagway is made of glass and they're living off closing last year with 4 wins including against 2-10 FSU and unranked Tulane who had lost their QB and TB to the portal before the bowl game. -Ole Miss has that one QB who had that one drive against Georgia last year. They lost a ton. See FSU if you think a constant portal rotation of 20+ entries and exits can't kill you. That's what's churned in and out again at Ole Miss, LSU, and OU. That's not tenable and at least one of those teams is going to be punished for missing on evaluations and having a mercenary culture, maybe several. The formidable opponents in this conference this year are Texas, Georgia, and Bama. Everybody else you can drop in a bag, shake it up, and pull out a name and it will look the same or worse than the other 13 teams. Same as the Big 10.

Dabo Swinney has a message…
closetojumping replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
He just said almost the identical quote heading into the playoffs in 2024. It was something dumb trash like “we were the first 15-0 national champions, now we’re going to be the first 3 loss champion.” and then Texas whipped his loudmouthed ass. He’s a giant dum dum. -

I was looking at the Longhorns in the NFL list on Ourlads today and noticed that Connor Williams was nowhere to be found. I looked him up and I didn’t hear about him deciding to retire in the middle of last season after playing every offensive snap through 9 games for the Seahawks. Bizarre. He made some decent money. I hope he’s doing well. I was grateful for him on the OL during some dark times for Texas in general. -

Not sure what this will be
closetojumping replied to Bobby Burton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Pretty sure that a HC change opens the portal for a roster for 30 days. To your question about OT, Jacob Seaton is a former 5 star. I think he started as a freshman and he is still on the roster. Might want to fact check that, though.
