  1. It was a bizarre post for you to derive such humor from, but you do you. Every thread on this board impacts the community on the whole. Sadly, that is true even when the thread is absolute trash and shouldn't have been started in the first place. If you're going to put stuff like this out there, other folks are going to respond, me included. Brain dumps in the form of new thread creations deserve responses in kind.
  2. You're going to find responding to things like this to be futile. I find myself wanting to help, and then I realize, nope, the mods know what they're doing.
  3. I know this is probably an unfair question and I am not trying to play "gotcha", Bobby, but was there anyone you saw in which they caught your eye for the wrong reasons and give you pause on how they'll fit into things? Not asking you to name names.
  4. You call someone else narcissistic while presuming that any random thought that tumbles out of your brain needs to be presented to the board in a declarative new thread. Strong work. This whole thread, much as the last one, is just bandwidth-draining personal musings. You're taking the position, on a Texas board, that a Texas commitment needs to go elsewhere for his own good. The presumption, of course, being that you know better and can see the future. How do you expect something like that to be received? If you really have some sort of bizarre but genuine altruistic concern for Bolden's future and feel a need to warn him off from his current path, do you really expect him to be reading this board and then noting your thoughts? Then you use the "this young Man" trope that the guru boards always seem to draw in from posters, while positing another poster's age and condescending him at the same time. 20+ years of reading the boards and it is, still and always, old to see this same kind of behavior manifest over and over.
  5. I looked it up. He played in all 14 games and took close to half of all non-garbage snaps. He sat the final 3 drives against Chattanooga and the final 2 drives against MTSU.
  6. I think "DL" is a misnomer right now in this discussion. The NT/DT side of things will step back. The DE/Edge/OLB component is absolutely going to be better, and that could and should benefit all other elements of the D. I don't think anyone is giving that unit the proper weight because it has been so long since it was a strength at Texas with depth. Did you remove garbage time and missed time due to injury?
  7. He didn't play as a "specialist" for Bama last year. What codaxxx meant is that he's hoping to see Niblack turn into Anthony Gonzalez for this season. Niblack played the majority of the offensive snaps for Bama last season at TE, he's a threat in the passing game, and he's fine in the running game unless you want to run through TE1 for some absurd reason. He's never going to be a guy mauling DEs in the trenches.
  8. Do you understand context at all? You’ve been on the boards for 20+ years. Christ. I “literally” didn’t call the team a dumpster fire. I said the program is trending there. A grown man with a keyboard should have a clue as to how those are different and understand why. The rest is hopefulness on your end more than anything. This team has been poorly coached at times and the guy in charge fundamentally embarrassed everyone with his meltdown after UCF.
  9. No one called it a dumpster fire. That said, if you’ve watched this team this season and thought “yeah, man, this program is headed in the right direction”, go ahead and say it. After Texas is unceremoniously disposed of this weekend, Terry faces almost a complete rebuild. He’ll be highly dependent upon his incoming recruits, hoping that Mitchell comes back again and gets better, and portal wizardry. Maybe that all works out, but this season and Terry’s history doesn’t inspire a ton of confidence.
  10. In this era, Texas should be lagging no one on the diamond. Outside of LSU/Marucci NIL, no one is way out ahead of Texas on NIL. Being in year 6 or 7 and being this weak with holes everywhere is inexcusable. Texas Baseball should be one of the high-flyers in the sport right now. Texas should be a perennial top 5 program. This is pathetic. Don’t look now but the 2nd and 3rd most significant programs on campus are trending towards dumpster fires.
  11. I send the staff strongly worded letters all of the time. I only post on message boards to fine tune my arguments with them. Otherwise, why are we here, right? It’s not like we’d be doing so in order to have our own opinions and discussions. The only thing “scary” about Blackshire clocking in at 261 is his cholesterol count.
  12. 4 guys at 360lbs or more simply doesn't look good. Sydir Mitchell needs to start mixing in some salads.
  13. 1) No one said OLs aren't athletic. That's you either reading incorrectly or purposely propping up a strawman in order to tear him down. Don't care which it is, but it's wrong either way. 2) Flood didn't recruit OLs into the program only to then convert them as emergency filler. Flat out. 3) OLs didn't show up on campus only to be forced into a position switch that likely destroys their career. You completely ignore this in your premise. With the portal today, give us a frigging break on this working out if attempted. 4) You poo poo the notion of a dramatic position switch for a single football season's needs not working out at all. It's absurd to witness. 5) Look around. This kind of thing rarely ever happens and rarely ever works beyond that. Across the span of FBS, yearly, we rarely hear about this notion. Anyway, here's some free advice for fomenting a better discussion the next time you want to roll out a premise that you're already convicted on: "I believe that it would be straightforward and simple to make X (dramatic change) happen with this roster and this coaching staff. I feel like I am the first person to have this insight, and I think I need help getting this concept into this coaching staff's hands. With that considered, I am submitting this open letter for the board's perusal. Hopefully someone will get this in front of someone on the staff." Then proceed with your screed.
  14. OL simply aren't as athletic as DTs and NTs need to be at the college level. People are politely trolling you because this concept is not new and never happens for a reason. It's not "out of the box a little". It's simply a bad take. Also, let's not wish any "death" at defensive tackle. Maybe you think there is a dearth, but we'll see what the staff thinks. If they want guys from the portal after the spring practices, they will have the NIL capabilities to obtain them. There is a very strong possibility that they're going to get a very well regarded DT from the portal, which is going to make all of the handwringing on the boards over DT look silly.
  15. I also think it is high time for this staff to stop piddling around and give Corey Redding his deserved shot at linebacker.
  16. They already have Winston, so is it sort of a “whichever guy is excited to commit in June” scenario between Townsend and Armstrong?
  17. You doubt the magnetic recruiting skills of Panama Red Bryant at your own peril, sir.
  18. What else should we discuss for shiggles? "The Bob Weltlich Era - Extended" "Luke Axtell, Tom Penders - Marriage & Divorce" "Takin' It Easy - The Post NC Mack Brown Era" "66-3 - A Deep Dive" "Gap'em - Four 2nd Saturdays In October - The OU Blowouts of the Mack Brown Era" "January 1st, 1991 - A Cotton Bowl To Remember" "The Charlie Strong Era In 47 Chapters" - this will include a 6 chapter review of a Shawn Watson's offense and the impact on the schedule Man, so much fun material for us to hash out starting out with this thread's topic.
  19. I posted a thread of a similar nature on Surly. Link below, for anyone that doesn't go there normally but had an interest in adjacent content for this subject matter. If cusswords bother you, or if you're a big fan of Tom Herman, don't click. Anyway, good post, Bobby, but you're too gentlemanly in your review of that class. It's a staggeringly bad class. I realize that Owens and McCoy may make an NFL roster, but they did nothing at Texas and Owens is just a general nothing overall. To me, the two big issues for that class were as follows: 1) They lost 5 guys before the fall began. McCoy, Floyd, Caleb Johnson, Mpagi, and DBrown. Three of those went down to career-ending injuries before playing (Floyd obviously got approved years later to play elsewhere). They ran Johnson off before the spring ended. McCoy, well, he behaved like a child during that period. But 5 out of 24 is 21% of your class vanishing into thin air before school started. That's brutal. 2) The evaluations basically completely failed at the top, both by the services and staff. Owens, Smith, Liebrock, and Watson were all national top 150/175 guys. They were all failures. Owens failed at Tech too. The NFL has him at the combine due to his measurables, a siren song of his for all evaluators. Add these whiffs with the McCoy BS and Floyd's situation and it's a decapitation of the class at the top in a spectacular way. Anyway, here's the aforementioned link: https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/33867-one-class-can-kill-you-reviewing-the-texas-2019-class/#comments
  20. Texas recruiting Marsh is a head scratcher for me. He checks damned near every box for "Do Not Want". I hope he winds up at Texas A&M. It'd be another perfect fit between Katy and ATM for Texas fans.
  21. The shame of this season is the loss of Rori Harmon. The fact that they still have a good shot at a FF or better is amazing, but if they had her, I'd have been thinking we could seriously see a finals against someone like South Carolina.
  22. Worthy's rating is kind of stunning. I hope he kills it at the combine.
  23. I'm waiting for Cordova to show up for an unofficial visit in a wheelchair and immediately accept a scholarship offer. I love can't miss Lake Travis takes. They always work out really well.
  24. I think the issue here is that I understand what a "deafening uproar" actually means to a normal human being and you think it applies to the notion of bubble discussions. You and Billy Liucci should get together and go bowling. I remember when he was outraged on Twitter in 2022 that a mediocre ATM basketball team didn't make the tournament. He also still brings up the notion that somehow ATM got royally screwed with the CFP in 2020 even though ATM lost to the 1 seed, Bama, by 4 touchdowns earlier in the season and the only people interested in a depantsing in a rematch were the masochists in the ATM fanbase. The response to both of those situations from people who aren't fans of that program was certainly "deafening" - in its silence. Same as it will ever be when someone gripping for the last seed fails to get the nod.
