Longhorn Wealth replied to Mike Gosnell's topic in On Texas Football Forum
For those of us who are not Pat McAfee regulars, what time is his show on and do we know when during his show the announcement is scheduled for? -
Give Me Your Thoughts | Coverage for the Fall
Longhorn Wealth replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Bobby, This comment above and another earlier one that tapped into the void of the loss of Longhorn Network's old pre and post game content really hit the bullseye. He is referencing the old "Ricky", "VY", "Catch" and "Jammer (big hit)" awards they would give out for each game during the post game show, and you guys could pick that up and even add the "Special Teams" play of the game. Plus, while I know and appreciate the sensitive nature of critiquing individual players, it would be great to at least maybe highlight the difference-makers in the game - good and bad. You know Sark has spoken about how they have the team sessions, I think called "The Good, Bad and Ugly" on Sundays or Mondays where they don't rag on players, but point out the effort, technique and attention to detail plays when a player truly excelled at those, but also when a player badly missed one or more of those during the scope of the game. You know Sark's favorite saying to the players: “Who you are some of the time is who you are all of the time.” Accountability matters. Lastly, I think on your Sunday show or better yet, on the Monday morning Coffee and Football, it would be great to add a segment that would be a take off on the old Norm Hitzges spot here in Dallas radio of the "5 Plays that Shaped the Game" that typically focused on less heralded plays that really were game changers for Dallas Cowboy games. That would be a cool thing for the mods to have researched and "present" their cases of a couple each on Monday mornings. Oh, and if you think it would be well-received to have one of your great sponsors on to provide a pure fan comment/perspective now and then, I would be all for that!!! 🙂 Hook'em! -
I would certainly do my best, but historically it is very difficult to get young athletes who come into large $ to take a proper long term approach to managing the funds. Believe me, if I was given the opportunity to, I would do my best to help him and his family see the light, but when you often have family and "the entourage" with other ideas, it can be like talking to a wall. Thus, why so many athletes wind up broke.

4-star+ WR Kaydon Finley to Notre Dame
Longhorn Wealth replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Tough to lose out on a great kid from a great family of a great legacy, but you cannot go wrong deciding between Notre Dame and Texas. Good luck to Kaydon!! -

$5 Million MINUS his agent's 10 to 20% = $4.-4.5 million. Less taxes for a single filer of 37% = $2.5 to $2.8 million. You really thnk he is going to be INVESTING all of that??? GMAB. Odds of his being a high draft pick out of TT vs UT is SIGNIFICANT (last first round pick out of Tech was Crabtree in 2009; last 2nd round pick was RB in 2020). Likely he could have gotten at least a $1.0 million per year from UT with much greater likelihood of being a Round 1 or 2 draft pick. He will regret this decision. Not betting on himself. Hope it work out well for them.

As an avid fan and a sponsor, this is an honest question and slight gripe: why should my source - you guys - go radio silent when we don't get a recruit? Why not have a simple post thread created to announce the result, and then update the thread title to "BOOM" or "MISS"? As a busy business owner, I don't have the time to go hunting through pages of jawboning to try to find out the result during my day. For instance, today with Guervil, I finally slogged through tonight since when I quickly checked the threads earlier today I saw nothing, so I had no idea if he had postponed or picked another school, as I figured if he had picked us you would have at least had a BOOM type post. So tonight I first discovered in a thread that the Noon commitment time had been pushed back to 4:00pm. Then I had to go search for 4 hours laters in pages of the thread to find the answer. Seems like an easy solution is to just have Gerry or CJ create the "Guervil Commitment Decision" post thread with the scheduled time of announcement in the title. Then he simply updates it if the time gets pushed back by hours or days, and then eventually just updates it with the decision. Those who want to dive into the thread to cuss and discuss it during the day can have at it, but for those who just wanted to know what happened, it would be of great service. Seems easy enough. EXAMPLE Original Thread Title: Guervil Commitment Announcement today 7/2 at Noon CST Updated Title: Guervil Commitment Announcement today 7/2 at Noon CST - PUSHED BACK to 4:00pm CST Final Title: Guervil Commitment Announcement today 7/2 at Noon CST - PUSHED BACK to 4:00pm CST - MISS 😞 Just trying to help make it even better! Family. 🙂 Niece getting married. She did not attend UT, not did her fiance. I know my niece is not into football, and I don't think her fiance is too much either. Again, at least we will get to watch the entire game undisturbed well before the wedding!
-
I am happy with the Noon EST kickoff, as I will be at a wedding weekend in Denver. Wedding is 4:30pm that Saturday, but with CO time, we will be watching the kickoff on TV at 10:00am, so no conflict at all with the wedding. AWESOME for us!! Hook'em!!!

OTF community question ...
Longhorn Wealth replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Last year MIss St made the Big Dance with an 8-10 record in SEC play, but they were 21-14 overall. If Texas only gets to 8-10 n SEC, then that means their overall record would only be 19-12. If they go 7-11, they will be 18-13. Hopefully the strength of schedule gets them in, but last year LSU was 17-16 overall and 9-9 in SEC and got left out. Ole Miss was 7-11 in SEC and 20-12 and got left out. Gonna be close for Texas, unless they also make a splash in the SEC tourney. -
Turntine’s “family commitment” ….
Longhorn Wealth replied to Raistlin's topic in On Texas Football Forum
No issue at all with him choosing to go to the "other" UT for a Junior Day. However, it could be a big issue if he was not being truthful with the Texas coaches regarding why he was not coming to Austin. It would be nice to know if Gerry's reporting was NOT coming from our coaches but rather from the kid or a source close to the kid. I look forward to Gerry clarifying this for us, as it is not a big deal if he told Gerry a "story" about family plans, vs if he was actually not straight with our coaches, as that would be a negative sign. -
Less tailgate just means bigger Friday night party!! Right?

This pic and the quote says it all. The quote directly supports what Jerry has been saying: if he doesn't go to UT, it is because he just wants to be somewhere else, because every other factor made UT the smart and right choice. But his quote is saying exactly that, he wanted to take a "different" "path" to build his own "legacy". Was it because his heart is in Oregon? PLEASE, SPARE ME! He wanted to be the centerpiece and get all the attention. That would never happen with Arch, Wingo and Cook there already in Austin, much less if we were also brining in other 5 Star WR's in his own class!! But what REALLY makes it obvious what the other primary factor was in this was all about $$$ - just look at him holding the Nike shoe up like a trophy, you could replace it with a stack of $100 bills and it would be sending the exact same message. This is further confirmed if you look at the lower picture of him. He is holding a bulging envelop with a "Committed" letter sticking out - what do you think the stuffed envelope is supposed to represent - the $$$!!!!! So, I while I think Jerry is correct to an extent about DM just "wanting to be somewhere other than UT", I think the reasons why matter. On the other hand, I honestly think Bobby is wrong in saying "everybody's money is the same color" and so we must have just been outworked/outsmarted. It's not the color of the money that is the issue - IT IS THE AMOUNT OF IT THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE TO THESE KIDS!!!!!!! Lastly, it appears we also underestimated the weight of having his HS coach's son recruiting him would have on his decision. That was a unique dynamic that was impossible for us to duplicate, or even emulate. No doubt they sold him on the "different path" and "legacy" story for him that would be harder for him to achieve in Austin. Sucks to lose out on him, but I am confident we will have an excellent WR class this year regardless. -

But that is why you recruit the parents/families as well, so hopefully the "life experience" minds can bring some logic and truth to the child's decision process. -

Overall, I just hope that DM and his family are not letting some last minute money pitch from Oregon cause them to lose site of the reality that this IS a "40 year decision, not a 4 year decision". UT offers the better fit from an offensive setup and infrastructure perspective from both a players, coaches, scheme and development standpoint, so his future development and NFL draft stock value would dwarf any last minute extra sack of cash Nike might be throwing at him. Of course, there is also the large difference in educational value and reputation advantage that UT has over UO, and then there is absolutely NO comparison between the power and opportunities available with the Texas Exes vs whatever the former Ducks call themselves. And UT offers him the opportunity for his family to truly be involved and share in his college football experience, which you cannot put a price tag on. I just hope Sark and his team have been able to get all those truths successfully understood and embraced by DM. -

Not to mention Nike is a sad combination of "woke" marketer and "child/slave labor" sweatshop abuser, so we don't need to be feeding that beast. -

Four-Star OL Announces Top 8
Longhorn Wealth replied to Blake Munroe's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Do we think he has an actual "committable offer" from UT? #343 player in the class seems like a reach, but maybe we felt we had to in order to get Fodje? -
Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like you are correct, as he would have been a Fall 2021 Freshman enrollee., so his first college year would be the 2021-2022 year. Assuming that is how it applies to him, he really only has one year of playing eligibility left, so unless he redshirts in the 2024 season (HIGHLY UNLIKELY), he will be a "one and done" at UT. Let's hope his one season is at least as impactful as Trill Carter's was, but hopefully much more so.
