AUSTIN, Texas – Using an implemented strategy that resulted in historic offensive statistics, a Big 12 Conference regular season championship and an appearance in the Women's College World Series Championship, Texas' Steve Singleton has been selected as D1Softball's Assistant Coach of the Year, the publication announced. Over the course of the Longhorns' 65-game schedule, Texas broke two single-game team records — most runs batted in (23) and highest single-game home attendance (2,214) — along with 15 single-season team records, 10 of which were in the offensive category. Additionally, the UT defense turned a program-record 31 double plays, one more than the previous record set during the 2022 campaign. Texas, which tied its program's single-season wins total with 55, also led the country in batting average with a .370 clip. The Longhorns were also one of just four teams across the country to score 500-or-more (507) runs. UT also set a new single-season home run record, surpassing a mark that previously stood since 2010, while also totaling over 1,000 total bases (1,051) for the first time in program history. Reese Atwood was one of the biggest names to reap the benefits of Singleton's coaching as Texas' sophomore catcher set five single-season offensive records, including home runs and RBIs, en route to leading all of Division I softball in RBI with 90. Atwood was also named the Big 12, D1Softball and Softball America's Player of the Year, while being one of three finalists for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year award. She was also a unanimous First Team NFCA All-American for her productivity throughout the 2024 season.
