AUSTIN, Texas — Thirty current or former University of Texas athletes have earned spots on their home countries' Olympic teams, and seven coaches with ties to UT Athletics also will participate in the upcoming Olympic Games. The 30 athletes competing sets a record for the largest delegation that The University of Texas has sent to an Olympics, topping the previous best of 29 athletes at the 2020 Tokyo Games. The 2024 Summer Olympic Games will be held July 26-August 11 in Paris, France. All told, UT athletes and coaches will represent 12 different Longhorns' sports programs (Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball, Men's Golf, Women's Golf, Rowing, Soccer, Men's Swimming and Diving, Women's Swimming and Diving, Women's Tennis, Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field and Volleyball) and represent 16 different countries (Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Haiti, Hungary, Ireland, Jamaica, Netherlands, New Zealand, Saint Lucia, Serbia, South Sudan, Taiwan and the United States). A total of 14 athletes and three coaches with ties to The University of Texas will represent Team USA in Paris. Texas ranks in a tie for fourth among NCAA Division I schools based on the number of athletes competing on the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team, trailing only Stanford (38), UCLA (17) and USC (16) and tied with Penn State (14). Men's and Women's Track and Field will have a total of 10 athletes in Paris. Heading the list is two-time Olympic gold medalist Ryan Crouser (shot put) and second-time Olympian Tara Davis-Woodhall (long jump) who will represent Team USA. Mariam Abdul-Rashid (100m hurdles) will compete for Canada, and Rhasidat Adeleke (400m, mixed 4x400m relay) will represent Ireland. Julien Alfred (100m, 200m) will compete for Saint Lucia, and Emelia Chatfield (100m hurdles) will represent Haiti. Leo Neugebauer (decathlon) will compete for Germany, while the trio of Ackelia Smith (long jump, triple jump), Lanae-Tava Thomas (200m) and 2020 bronze medalist Stacey-Ann Williams (400m, 4x400m relay) will represent Jamaica. Men's and Women's Swimming will have 10 current or former athletes in Paris, including six with Team USA. Carson Foster (200 IM, 400 IM), rising sophomore Erin Gemmell (200 free, 4x200 free relay), rising senior Luke Hobson (200 free, 4x200 free relay), rising senior David Johnston (1500 free, open water 10K), second-time Olympian Drew Kibler (4x200 free relay) and rising sophomore Aaron Shackell (400 free) will represent the United States. Rising sophomore Angie Coe (200 IM) will compete for Taiwan, Caspar Corbeau (100 breast, 200 breast) will represent The Netherlands, rising senior Anna Elendt (100 breast, 4x100 medley relay) will compete for Germany and rising junior Hubert Kos (200 back, 100 fly, 100 back) will represent Hungary. Three-time Olympic gold medalist Kevin Durant (men's basketball), second-time Olympian Alison Gibson (women's 3-meter springboard diving), 2020 gold medalist Chiaka Ogbogu (women's indoor volleyball), world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler (men's golf) and Rowing's duo of Kaitlin Knifton (women's four) and Daisy Mazzio-Manson (women's four) will compete for Team USA. Second-time Olympian Yvonne Anderson (women's basketball) will represent Serbia, 2020 gold medalist Julia Grosso (soccer) will compete for Canada, Sara Kouskova (women's golf) will represent the Czech Republic and Lulu Sun (women's tennis) will compete for New Zealand. A trio of current Texas coaches will work for Team USA, including Carol Capitani (assistant coach, swimming), Matt Scoggin (coaching staff, diving) and Erik Sullivan (team leader, men's volleyball). Bob Bowman (swimming) will work as a National Team Coach for France, while Royal Ivey (men's basketball) will serve as Head Coach for South Sudan. In addition, Edrick Floréal (track and field) will work on the coaching staffs for Great Britain, Ireland and Saint Lucia, and Jim Garnham (track and field) will serve as an assistant coach for Germany. Entering the 2024 Paris Games, a total of 162 University of Texas athletes have participated in the Olympics and captured a combined 156 medals (89 gold, 43 silver and 24 bronze).
