  1. All good. Make your own list, include a category for “tweeners” on it and put Sark there. I will not disagree with you.
  2. I’m cautious on the pass rush. We’ve really only seen it at a high level from Simmons. I have optimism that Burke will get better and better as the year goes on and he’ll probably end up around the 7-8 sacks mark. But outside of that it’s skepticism for me. Haven’t seen anything from anyone else outside of Vasek that gets me excited about the pass rush this year, and he hasn’t proven that he can stay on the field. I do think the pass rush will improve as this was the first game and against what may be the most talented oline we’ll face, but I’m not convinced that it will be elite or on par with last year’s pass rush. Just too many unknowns. Oline was encouraging to me. The pass pro was really good considering the opponent and hostile environment and the run blocking was decent to really good at times. Unfortunately, without any elite running backs this is what we are going to get in big time matchups. An elite running back would have had well over 100 yards yesterday. Wisner doesn’t have the burst and Baxter’s best asset is picking up blitzes. He’s not the runner we thought he’d be. Can’t wait to see the young guys over the next three weeks.
  3. Yep! Some Coaches styles don’t work when they are not in charge of who to draft, trade, cut, recruit, etc. That’s why I overlook great college coaches who spent a moment in the pros then went back to coaching college because they knew it wasn’t going to work under the constraints presented when working for a pro sports franchise. “If they want you to cook the dinner, at least they ought to let you shop for some of the groceries.” ~Bill Parcells
  4. Do you know Sabans history at Michigan St., LSU, and Bama? Do you know he’s won over 80% of the college games he coached? Turned them all around and made them into contenders. Won titles with multiple schools and sustained excellence at the one place he made home. He left the NFL because it’s a different game. He’s a college coach and he realized that. You do know that Strong coached before he came to UT right? This wasn’t his first gig. He was on his way to making Louisville into what Patterson made TCU to be, winning over 70% of his games and going 3-1 in bowl games. His mistake was thinking he’s a Gifted & Talented coach when he’s not. Shoulder have stayed at Louisville and became a legend like Patterson and Gundy.
  5. And Franklin belongs in the third group until proven otherwise.
  6. Don’t Over think it? I’ve formulated this opinion over 30 years of observation. Sark has head coached 136 games in college. I think that’s more than enough data to put him in one of the categories. If you disagree, that’s fine, it’s subjective… but over thinking? Nah…
  7. I’ve been watching sports for over 50 years, long enough to see hype cycles come and go, dynasties rise and fall, and coaching reputations built on everything from rings to press conferences. So I’ve formulated my own coaching tier system. Not based on media narratives, fan loyalty, or sideline swagger — just on what these coaches actually do with the teams they’re handed. Some build greatness no matter the circumstance. Some need a roster full of Ferraris to get out of the garage. And some are masters of the rebuild — turning misfits into contenders, but never quite crossing the finish line. Here’s how I break it down. Feel free to argue, add names, or call me crazy. And while we’re at it… where does Sark land in all this? The Savants These are the true architects. Drop them into any situation — college or pro, football or basketball — and they’ll build a champion from scratch. Doesn’t matter if it’s a reboot, rebuild, a mess, or a no-name roster. They create greatness. Examples: Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells, Nick Saban, Pat Riley, Urban Meyer, Pete Carroll, Coach K, Roy Williams, Rick Pitino, Gregg Popovich The Gifted & Talented Only Coaches These guys are elite… if you hand them elite talent. They’ll win titles with a stacked roster, but don’t expect miracles if the cupboard’s bare. Give them a Ferrari, they’ll win the race. Give them a blank canvas, and you’re getting a knockoff Starry Night painted with sidewalk chalk. Examples: Phil Jackson, Bill Belichick, Steve Kerr, Barry Switzer, Dabo, Jim Harbaugh The Bad News Bears / Mighty Ducks Coaches Masters of the rebuild. They’ll take a bunch of misfits and turn them into a legit contender. But they usually stall out before reaching the mountaintop. Great at culture, systems, planning, grit, and overachieving, but they’re missing that final gear — the one that turns contenders into champions. Examples: Don Nelson, Gary Patterson, Mike Gundy, Charlie Strong, Lincoln Riley, Chris Petersen, Brian Kelly, Frank Beamer, Mike Leach, Bryan Kelly, Lane Kiffin, Sark? Where do you think Sark belongs?
  8. Concerns & Things to keep an eye on IMO… NO EXPLOSIVENESS * Lack of offensive playmakers. I’m not buying Baxter/Wingo hype until I actually see it. Wingo has to get the ball on the move to be effective. He doesn’t have in air ball skills to consistently win contested balls. Baxter’s best quality as a RB is picking up blitzes. Wisener’s lack of burst leaves a lot of yards on the field. *No downfield threat at WR or out of the backfield MENTAL ERRORS *Still committing mental error penalties (pre snap and personal foul) that kill drives! GILBEAU * Gilbeau is going to be a liability DE/EDGE ROOM *Slight concern that DE room isn’t what we think it is. Lack of impact/pressure plays from the position only reinforced my thoughts. SARK *Sark play calling in shorty yardage and goal to go situation e.g. 3rd and 3 and he calls two pass plays. *Sark in big games against equal talent or an elite coach -Sark 0 v. Kirby 2 -Sark 0 v. Day 2 -Sark 0 v. DeBoer 2

  10. He is fairly confident saying we’ll have 20-21 by August 1 multiple times. He knows something(s) is about to happen. If we get Matthews, Cooper, Atkinson, and Kreul, I’ll go sit quietly in the corner for the rest of the season.
  11. Lance Jackson’s size is on display next to Terry, and we know Terry is a BIG dude!
  12. Time will tell. Just saying we will be just fine doesn’t make it true. @Gerry Hamilton himself said this is a big blow to Texas.
  13. The goal is to maintain a stacked room, not just to have one.
  14. Sark’s Alow play strategy is being put to a major test this cycle. I sure hope Crowell or Cooper is one of the “Hi’s”….
  15. He hasn’t been listening. You preference every single recruiting comment with “now I’m not saying he’s gonna commit to Texas”… 😂
  16. Is this bite version of a hi? Otherwise I’m lost on the blank posts… @CJ Vogel
  17. It’s worked so far, but one year the slow play, late flip philosophy will not work.
  18. Since 2006 the Mavs have gone to three NBA finals and won 1. Nothing Aggy has done comes anywhere close to that.

  20. I’d hate for it to happen, but it’s the smart thing to do.
