Earl Thomas is on my DBU Mount Rushmore with Jerry Gray, Johnnie Johnson and Nathan Vasher. His ‘09 season is one of the best a Texas defensive player has ever had. Earl was only on the field for two years, but he might’ve had the best two-year run of any Longhorn DB ever.

As the Austin metro area continues to grow, I like throwing the Longhorns in the northern suburbs a bone with exhibitions like this one. Same for the fall baseball game against Tech in Round Rock last year. It can be a big-time hassle to get from Williamson County to the Forty Acres for games.

From UT: AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas women’s basketball team will host UCLA in Nyle Maxwell’s Lonestar Showcase on Oct. 25 at the H-E-B Center at Cedar Park the schools announced today. The Longhorns and Bruins met twice in the 2025-26 season. No. 4 Texas beat No. 3 UCLA on Nov. 26 in the Player’s Era Championship first game. No. 2 UCLA bested No. 3 Texas in the national semifinal on April 3. The Bruins went on to claim the 2026 NCAA Championship with a victory over South Carolina. Texas and UCLA have played 15 times in their history with Texas holding an 8-7 series advantage. Prior to the two meetings in the 2025-26 season the teams last played on March 24, 2021 in the second round of the NCAA tournament with Texas winning to advance to the Sweet 16. The 2025-26 season was historic for Texas women’s basketball as they advanced to the Final Four for a second straight season for the first time since 1987. Texas captured the 2026 SEC Tournament Championship and earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament for the third straight season. Texas finished the season with an overall record of 35-4. The Longhorns won a nation-leading 16 games over ranked opponents, including four wins over top-5 teams and six wins over top-10 teams. Tickets will be available for Texas women’s basketball season ticket holders to purchase on Wednesday, Sept. 2 and open to the general public on Friday, Sept. 4.

It was probably time. They have an extremely difficult schedule coming up but can’t beat the A’s or the Angels. 🤦‍♂️

QB Brandon is a terrific dual-threat talent but zero experience at this level. Glad we are playing the true freshman QB in game 1 of SEC play. Muschamp will have a plan to confuse him, keep him bottled up and attack him when the situations arise. Muschamp at Florida did a masterful job in the 2nd half vs A&M Manziel.
