  1. Past hour
  2. That's it for Sean Miller. Looking forward to tomorrow's opener at Moody Center.
  3. Miller mentioned that Marcus Spears and Amari Evans can allow Texas to play bigger defensively.
  4. David Punch anchored TCU's defense, Miller said. Punch's long arms, quickness and great instincts make him a great player. Punch and Matas playing together can work for Texas defensively, Miller said.
  5. Allowed just 16 receptions on 31 targets, an only one longer than 25 yards. Kade has been very, very reliable for Texas this season.
  6. Tom Herman anyone? Anyone?
  7. Matas is "much more agile away from the basket than you think he is," Miller said. That should allow him to stay on the court late in games instead of subbing him out for defensive purposes. Miller said they've put him in a position to be better in situations where he switches and has to be on a smaller, quicker player.
  8. Miller takes the No. 7 ranking in the AP Top 25 as a compliment. Miller doesn't believe Texas is one of the top-10 teams in the country right now. He believes Texas can get there, but "we need to be on that quest to improve."
  9. Miller: "I believe that our room for growth will be greater than some teams we play against."
  10. Texas has a higher starting point and a higher ceiling than it had a year ago, "but that doesn't mean we're going to get there," Miller said.
  11. "There will be a lot we can grow from and learn from, for sure," Miller said of Texas playing three games in eight days to open the season.
  12. Texas has grown and learned from two closed scrimmages against Arizona State and SMU, plus the exhibition against St. John's.
  13. Yet mississippi state targeted him till he got hurt
  14. Seeing and feeling that impact has helped Matas bounce back and improve since getting back from New York. "He's had a couple of really good days heading into our season opener," Miller said.
  15. Miller didn't feel Matas "set the proper tone for our team" in the first half of the St. John's exhibition.
  16. Miller: "He has to hold his end of the bargain up. Not that he has to score 20 points and get 10 rebounds every game." The expectation is for Matas to be bigger, better and smarter in his second season with the Longhorns, Miller said.
  17. On Matas' lack of rebounding in the first half against St. John's, Miller said there's no running from roles: everyone must be held accountable for Texas to get where it wants to be. In Matas' case, Miller said he was at his best in March. He has to pick up where he left off and he has more of a leadership role on this team.
  18. FSU fires Mike Norvell: Top candidates, roster and recruiting priorities https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/50055526/fsu-norvell-candidates-roster Interesting name popped up in this ESPN article: Jimbo Fisher. Would they take him back after he left them high and dry for Aggy big-bucks?
  19. Fired up to watch this team get the season started. Haven’t been this excited for basketball season in a long time. Hook em!! 🐂🤘🏼🧡
  20. Texas will "play each game for the win" in non-conference play, but Miller wants to see improvement from now until SEC play begins.
  21. Miller "would like to think we're smarter, we're better, we know more about our team and each other than we did a week ago," after the exhibition against St. John's at MSG.
  22. Miller said he changed the way he covered screens in his second stint at Xavier, relying more on drop coverage. He brought that to Texas because he didn't feel the Longhorns could handle it because of the lack of depth, particularly in the front court. With that said, expect Texas to be more aggressive this season, Miller said. He expects this team will play with better tempo and be able to rely more on blocks and deflections than last year's team did. The change is part personnel, part philosophy.
  23. Miller said they want to put Obiorah on the floor when they can count on him to defend and rebound.
  24. Miller said Lewis Obiorah "is right on the brink of being able to play," Miller said. The 7-foot-1-inch sophomore didn't play last season.
