Texas Soccer- The New Era on the Horizon
TexTheHorn24 replied to TexTheHorn24's topic in On Texas Football Forum

Atkinson seems to be more aligned as a player to TyAnthony Smith where he makes plays in space and requires more freedom to improvise as opposed to being a scheme based LB that fits in a specific role/responsibility under Muschamp's defense. He plays more like a "turn him loose and let him attack the ball" guy IMO. Just what I am thinking. Nothing against Atkinson as I like that style generally as those players make a ton of big plays, but also know that gap risk has consequences too. I hope we can make it work with Tyler.

The Myth of "SEC Bias" in the AP Poll
Buck Travis replied to AustinsTruth's topic in On Texas Football Forum
There were SEC bias charges associated with the BCS rankings also. Mathematically, those teams playing other ranked teams (higher in the first poll of the season) carried a weighting through the season. So ranked SEC teams playing each other supported all SEC teams being ranked higher. A comparison of SEC vs non-conference records across the 10 years prior to the BCS and into the BCS era shows that the SEC was basically 50-50 against non-conference competition for the 90's-2000's. But SEC teams dominated BCS playoffs. However, the SEC didn't consistently dominate NC in any decades prior to the BCS. The distribution of NCs across major conferences was pretty even from the 60's-90's. Was the 2000's dominance because SEC teams were all ranked higher together in early polls? Was is purely coincidence that the founding chairman of the BCS, Roy Kramer, was the former SEC commissioner? Then the gravitational pull of BCS performance started impacting recruiting? People always charged ND and Penn State bias from the eastern sports media during the bowl era. As a Texas fan in the 70's and 80's that was obviously true. -

Is there any update on Justus Terry? -
I think Bussey and some of their other WRs could hit the portal after the disaster in Collie Station this year.

Nick Townsend returned to practice on Thursday, per a source close to the Texas tight end. Big news for the Longhorns after Townsend exited the Ohio State game with a knee injury.- 6 replies

AustinsTruth started following The Myth of "SEC Bias" in the AP Poll
-
Given the rise of the "SEC bias" sentiment based on the AP Poll's (terrible) rankings, I thought it would be a good exercise to see just how accurate this narrative was. I approached the poll like an academic study, including a methodology section (I am a JD not a PHD but figured it'd be an interesting experiment). For the study, I removed the ballots of every AP Poll voter who could be considered to have an SEC affiliation to see what the poll would look like without "SEC bias" having an impact. The only team from the SEC that moved down was Missouri, who went from ranked 25 to 27. Other SEC teams actually moved up in the rankings. I attached the study results and methodology as a word doc if anyone wants to share it. Feel free to use it however you'd like, but in the days of misinformation, I felt like facts could be beneficial. Analytical look at SEC Bias in the AP Poll.docx

2026-27 Women’s Basketball Thread
HookemTexas replied to LonghornFan4Ever's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Disagree with you on this one. Does Coach Vic frustrate me at times? You bet. But facts are that since Coach Conradt, Texas hasn’t been relevant in women’s bball until Coach Vic came. And Texas had some elite recruits before his time as well - but part of recruiting is on the coach. Coach Vic has recruited more elite players than Texas has seen in prior years. Karen Aston would pull maybe 1 or 2 in (Ariel Atkins) and got lucky that Brooke McCarty was good, but she wasn’t elite. Part of the reason UConn and the other schools win is because they have way more talent than the rest of the league. I argue it’s a lot easier to win when your starting team is composed of the top 50 players in the country. During their Dynasty UConn had the top ranked recruit almost every year. Now Texas is in the conversation to get those types of players where in previous years they wouldn’t even have a chance.
