Now that the draft didn’t happen for him, I wonder if a “real story” will come out. Because to me it never felt like this was about the particular draft position but that there was (is) something else. Now that the draft didn’t provide that clean next step, i guess we’ll see just how much he doesn’t want to be on the 40 next year. Signing undrafted would be quite a statement.

I hear ya. For me he did nothing this past season to bolster his stock. I understand he will lose leverage by coming back next season but if he has the great season we all believe he’s capable of he won’t need leverage.

Did Mendoza actually fall? I didn’t see a single draft publication that had him as a top 300-400 player. He was always going to be a borderline draft pick in general. I think it’s pretty obvious based on the reporting here that he prefers to not keep playing college baseball. I don’t agree with it but oh well.
