AUSTIN, Texas — Matas Vokietaitis’ game-high 22 points led five players in double figures as No. 7 Texas 109-59 cruised to a season-opening win over Chicago State at Moody Center on Monday. There were signs of the Longhorns fulfilling Sean Miller’s desire to play a better brand of defense in his second season on the Forty Acres. Texas (1-0) forced 15 turnovers, recorded eight steals and blocked six shots, four of which came from Marcus Spears Jr. The highly-touted freshman scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds off the bench in his collegiate debut. Spears headlined a productive opening night for the Longhorn freshmen. Austin Goosby (seven points, seven rebounds and eight assists) got the start alongside Vokietaitis, Isaiah Johnson (18 points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals), Elyjah Freeman (five points and four rebounds) and David Punch (nine points, three rebounds and three assists). Joe Sterling scored 14 points (4-for-6 3-pointers) off the bench and Bo Ogden (eight points, two rebounds and two steals) played well in 14 minutes. View full news story

Take a look at how much Texas spends in NIL then look at every offensive metric. If Texas misses the CFP and he refuses to make any changes it would be far from dumb.

IMHO this is an issue with multiple layers of issues. Peeling the onion back...lack of development particularly with GCG groups is first and foremost. Second is a finesse style of offense. Looks pretty but when it comes to Championship time you better be able to punch the opposing team in the mouth. Third is the acceptance of mediocrity along the OL. If it werent an acceptance of this...its really difficult to explain average or worse for several straight years. Fourth is are we recruiting the right guys. Not just big humans but does this dude provide the kind of punch we are looking for. And last but not least. Leadership is a real issue especially on the offensive side of the ball. Muschamp has done a really good job getting great production from multiple players through a myriad of injuries. Texas offense needs to either put up or shut up. Its pretty sad that the anchor of the team is a head coach dubbed an offensive genius with this poor of development at the QB position and inability to adjust and finish games through 4 quarters of quality ball. My point is that there os more than enough blame to pass around and have leftovers to dole out seconds. Texas has done a great job recruiting but havent turned those 5*s and high 4s into world beaters. Banks being the exception.

I think this highlight 3 things for the program not just OL, and I too want Sark to break through. 1. Weird limited rotations and limited development reps. Doghouses and best player indecision into mid season. 2. Out thinking rather than having base fundamentals down then adding on riffs 3. Mean, heat seaking OL... not just enamored with big human traits. Our recent RB, WR, and TEs may be similar. Defense does not have that problem.

I just don't see anyone with the last name Manning entering the transfer portal. Especially while being the favorite to start the next year at a place like Texas. Fix the interior of the OL.

The QB Strategy Next Year and beyond

Why would you want to replace Sark? That would be so dumb. -
Espn just wrote an article about how our defense will be the reason we make a deep run in the playoffs.

I think it’s a strength thing. The disposition just exacerbates it. Lawrence must be a dud or we’d see him for baker. Or, one if the Coleman brothers.the juggernaut problem is baker and Roberson are “culture” guys so they’ll never be replaced. Coleman is nasty and that’s what we need to your point. He hasn’t been here long enough to get tamed. I’m actually a big fan of dark but I think his intelligence is crippling the athletes. He was to outsmart everyone versus leveraging far superior athletes. Get your 5 most athletic hosses, strip down the run game, and ask them to take out at the nearest body. 5 down and 6 to go . Make blitzers pay for dating to come forward, lol

OU fires offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle

OSU didn’t run him off. He resigned to take OC job in the NFL Northwestern moved the football and scored on the Indiana defense -
They certainly haven't been grooming the next QB with live reads the way they should be. But I would still roll with our current guys and spend every dollar we have on a new OL in the portal this offseason. If we don't have the best OL in the country next year there are even bigger malfunctions in our roster management than the ones we already know about.
