Texas Women’s Basketball - Relentless Defense is Special…
ChanmanV replied to Kevin C's topic in On Texas Football Forum
The difference has been how good our 4s have been defending of late. Carlton and Sidberry have really stepped up their defensive attention. When you have all 5 players pressuring passing lanes and attacking any weak dribble action, it's tough to run your offense and have any kind of rhythm. They may make some tough shots, but not with any consistency and that's what we've seen the last couple weeks. Rori sets the tone and she's not as flashy as Hannah Hidalgo but she is similar in the chaos she can cause. But Rori is the better straight up defender taking less big risks and playing better position to challenge shots and take charges. If Rori has her way with UCLA's PGs early, we have great chance to get out to a lead. We're just really good at creating this atmosphere of chaotic pressure but it not being overly risky so the opponents don't get wide open shots if they clear the chaos. I expect immense pressure on Rice and Leger Walker and us to again 3/4 front Betts to make the entry pass tough. The only thing that could derail us is foul trouble. We've been excellent at avoiding that so far and having our rotations maximized. -

Texas has signed SMU transfer OL Paris Patterson

I don't think Texas is going to be done adding these late flyers out of the portal very similar to Patterson. The 105 allows them to basically buy up penny stocks at this point in the calendar and see if one grows into something of value. - Today

Rhodes has visited Texas twice in the last 3 weeks. His grandfather, Bobby Rhodes, played linebacker at Texas.

Zero self-awareness. The guy is literally money whipping recruits because his attorneys don't believe the NCAA will do anything of note. Trying to grab unearned TV revenue from schools that have worked hard to build their fanbase tells you all you need to know about this guy. Typical Big 12 mindset.

Much of the NFL draft is based on the perception of what a player can do. I’m sure there are some whims, like Jerry having a fascination say with Johnny Manziel, that override fit, need, etc. Presumably these teams have watched every play of every game. Maybe they look at a stat sheet, but their evaluation of play will be based on the film and how those plays were made. Hill is an interesting player. He plays hard. This year he was very impactful in the 4th quarter versus MSU. We did fine without him versus the Ags. Now whether people like the PFF or not, their rationale likely has a similar twist to the NFLs perspective. Hill isn’t particularly highly graded as a pass rusher. If I were to argue yeah but, it would be on the side of he hasn’t developed the pash rush element of his game because of practice time rather than in game deployment. So again the NFL is projecting. Theres been a question raised on how his physical presence lacks physical development. His profile does not fit that of a pass rusher and to date the skills don’t show that either. Many of his sacks are not him beating guys one on one. He does not play a premium position. I’m not sure he has a,premium trait or skill or a premium part of his game. I’d put his best attribute as that he plays hard so maybe that’s his premium. A second to third round is where he should be expected to go. It’d be difficult to say he’s a steal before the 3rd and likely into the 4th. His position simply doesn’t have many guys go until the 3rd. It’s certainly not a position for which teams reach or take many chances.
