  1. Past hour
  2. I don’t totally with the Dabo Swinney comparisons because it’s been less than a year since White won a natty. It would be more like Mack Brown after he won a natty getting complacent in high school recruiting which led to the downfall of the football program. But I do agree, regardless of sport, it seems like the formula to building a perennial championship level program is to recruit instant impact high school players and surround them with experienced veterans. It’s getting harder than ever to recruit big high school classes and stash away talent because of how agents operate. If Texas doesn’t make it back to the WCWS championship series, it will be for the reasons you outlined. I do think Mike White will learn from this and be more aggressive in the portal going forward. I don’t think he’s the type of coach that’s just satisfied with winning only one national championship. As Rod Babers points out in livestreams, your biggest rival across the Red River constantly having your number and winning titles should bring out the best in White and this program to get back to the mountaintop.
  3. Vanderbilt is currently hosting and will probably sign Crump. LSU secured a commitment from former Florida guard Laila Reynolds and is hosting Jada Williams. SC has a scheduled visit from Virginia's Kymora Johnson. Rumors have also linked to Jordan Lee to SC. All three of these programs are hosting several portal players this weekend besides the ones mentioned above.
  4. Vic likely will sign three vets from the portal.
  5. Now that you mention it odds are way better in football. We should win it more often. I am not against you here. Just playing around. This team is fine. People blowing things out of proportion.
  6. Depending on Freshmen for Maddie’s senior year is asinine. I don’t care how talented they are. SC, LSU and Vanderbilt are hosting elite portal players and expected to sign some. Texas is not beating those teams with Freshmen. Sorry.
  7. And the other 305 division 1 teams don’t win the title. Would you say the odds are in our favor? Gus won 2 titles in 28 years at a time where only about 10 schools gave a damn about baseball. If the greatest coach in program history averages a title every 14 years it’s safe to say it’s a lot easier to talk about winning a title than doing it.
  8. Looks like a shower is making its way into College Station momentarily:
  9. Did some of y’all wake up crying, or are you grateful to see another day on this side.
  10. I don't know about Crittendon. Itute looks good. Bjorn seems a Holle clone. Holguin can shoot. But, Spaight can't guard a statue. I watched the McDonald's game and everyone scored on her with ease. She is NOT a Hidalgo clone. That is delusional.
  11. Today
  12. Texas is still No. 2 in RPI after the two losses to the Aggies:
  13. The Longhorns are trying to avoid a series sweep at the hands of the Aggies today. Schloss and Max Weiner will send Dylan Volantis to the mound, looking to salvage something out of this weekend. The game is streaming on SEC Network Plus.
  14. Mike White has to wake up and use the portal more effectively. White generally prioritizes building a roster through traditional high school recruiting, particularly within the state of Texas. He uses the portal sparingly to fill gaps. Last June, I watched other teams bring in insane talent while White sat complacent and happy with the incoming freshmen. When I’d question why White wasn’t bringing in a pitcher or 3rd baseman to replace Mia Scott, people would point to the freshmen class coming in and it would drive me crazy. If you look around the SEC, many teams have several portal players who start. Alabama, Arkansas and Florida are much improved this year because of the portal. Texas Tech has an entire roster built from the portal. Mike White is the Dabo Swinney of softball, but even Dabo is starting to adjust.
