Texas has found a new Director of Scouting per a report from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. Steve Sarkisian has named Kevin Mashack as the next Director of Scouting for the Texas Longhorns. Mashack, a Miami, Florida native, returned to Tennessee State University in the summer of 2023 for his third stint with the Tigers, where he served as Director of Football Recruiting. Mashack spent more than 13 years at TSU across three tenures (2007–2013, 2015–2021, and 2023), holding roles that ranged from student assistant and video coordinator to position coach and recruiting leader. Between his TSU stints, Mashack worked three seasons in the NFL with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2013–2015) as a scouting assistant in player personnel. He later moved into college personnel leadership roles, serving as Director of Player Personnel and High School Relations at Indiana in 2021 and Director of Player Personnel at Texas A&M in 2022 under Jimbo Fisher. Now, he joins the Longhorns on Steve Sarkisian's staff.

The question about their 3-point shooting slump really struck a nerve with Vic because deep down inside, he knows they're right and that's what it's gonna take to beat South Carolina, LSU, UConn, etc. in the tourney and win it all imo. With Aaliyah Crump back healthy, their outside shooting is the only question mark I have about this team. They are national championship level at everything else. The outside shooting won't hurt them in the regular season but could cap their ceiling to Final Four if it doesn't get addressed. Right now, it seems like UConn is destined for an undefeated national championship season. They are the best 3-point shooting team in WCBB and it's gonna take a herculean effort to knock them out of the tourney. Their conference schedule is a cake walk. Texas at full strength has the best chance to do that imo. -

Do we have an analyst dedicated to whining to refs yet? I use "analyst" and "fixer" interchangeably here. -

There wasn't as much turnover on the offensive staff this year than defense, obviously. Not ruling out offensive additions to the analyst room, but right now focus on my end remains on the defensive side. -

Most interested in seeing if Lee can get back on track. She’s been slumping the last few games now and we will not contend for a chip without her playing well with confidence. Also, I want to see Crump get integrated more into the offense off the bench. -

CJ any news on offensive analyst hirings? I feel Sark could still use a few more eyes and data to help him game plan and understand our team better at times. - Today

Great news! Texas guy with the SDE measurables and good production but not a 5* price tag while following 5* Wesley SDE. Texas hit the sweetspot. -
A couple of things. One, I doubt Sarkisian will look to tweak Becton's strength training philosophy, but I think a tweak is in store. The big uglies, especially on the offensive side of the ball, under Sarkisian have never been good in short-yardage situations, situations in which you have to generate power and force from the ground up right here right now. Becton's strength training philosophy is a bit strange to me. He focuses on the speed with which you move the bar and not necessarily how much weight you can lift. For strength training, it matters how much you put under the bar. Moving the bar fast does not lead to strength. Two, I don't feel like there is that much leadership the team is losing compared to what remains in that department. Arch. Simmons. Goosby. McDonald. I mean, those four alone had to be four of the top 6, right? The other two to fill it out were likely Hill and Taaffe.

I love Vic. He gets the best out of his girls and does it in a way that his players still feel loved and want to do their best by him. I am glad this group is having to play through some adversity as this hopefully will cause them to keep pressing and peaking at the right time. They have it in them to win it all this year. -

Amalia Holguin, incoming guard next year, and the last and youngest of Kobe's Mamba Team out of Newport, (still in high school) hit for 61 points for Senior Day! She is a great outside shooter. Has an amazing handle and part of the #1 recruiting class in the country. -

I should add that the team gets going very very early in the morning for workouts. Nice and brisk this week. -
We are finally at full max health capacity. Coach can go 12 deep. The return of Aaliyah Crump brings more offensive fire power to the court. Rori was more offensive minded last game as her midrange jumper is deadly. She still rarely shoots the 3. Jordan Lee has been in a three game shooting slump and we really need her to get back on it. At Coach Vic's recent presser, he was not happy discussing the lack of our three point shooting. It struck a nerve. He also said that the big girls, especially Oldacre, need the ball more in the paint. He loves the team, sees they are very good, but lack toughness at times which challenges him to coach better. He said Ashton Judd and Rori were the only consistent tough girls on the team. I foresee a drubbing of the Gators this evening. Hook'em!
