If ND loses its matchup with USC
GoHorns1 replied to Realist Horn's topic in On Texas Football Forum
ND must join a Power 4 for football (already a member of the ACC for other sports)and play by the same rules as ALL other schools in football.! -
Assuming Texas gets 3 or 4 really good HS DL prospects in the '26 class, they won't have to take 5 DL in the December '26/spring '27 portal. Should only have to take 1-3 instead to prepare for the '27 season. After the spring '27 portal haul, Texas should be at the point that (like the OL room) they don't have to hit the portal at all to grab interior DL unless it's a can't miss guy and/or the recent additions don't pan out. Maybe Kenny Baker leaves for a DC job by then, but knowing Sark, he'll have a suitable replacement ready to go with hopefully the best interior DL room in the country to come to.

Rumors are floating the USC is trying to get out of its game with ND. Will it soon be forced to join a conference and will its weak strength of schedule be held against it? They play two ranked teams in week 1 and 2 in Miami (#21) and a&m (23). It’s a joke.

Turns out this team is the diamond version of Brian Ferentz Iowa teams.

I agree with you on this. He seems pretty even handed about Texas even though I think he was the Colorado QB in the 70-0 beat down, right? The other guy I like is Josh Pate even though I think there are a lot of guys who don't like him. The list of guys I wouldn't listen to is lengthy but these two, to use your term, offer 'value added'.

I think Klubnik is a very good player. I just don’t think he’s a 1-1. But I still don’t see that in Cam Ward either.
-
I don't think they even had a spring game this year. They did have some kind of fan event but don't know if that picture was part or all of it.

Joel Klatt. Na-na-na-na-na. Joel Klatt.

I agree with Blake. The power will be there, and so will the strikeouts, which means the walks need to be there for Ivan to keep ascending to the show.

Of the sports pundits covering college football, i trust Klatt more than most of the others. His analysis is reason based as opposed to narrative based. Most of his takes are either correct or reasonably correct based on available information.

Hard not to look ahead at 2026, thinking about a defensive line with Colin Simmons, Lance Jackson, Justus Terry, Maraad Watson, Alex January, Josiah Sharma, Myron Charles. Those are some freaky large humans with awesome athleticism. Looking like Bama and Georgia when they were on their natty runs a few years back. Hope Justus Terry and Lance Jackson are able to make big contributions this season to complement Simmons on the other side.

I am a big Ivan fan and hope he can tweak some things enough to keep progressing. Making the transition and moving up to the big leagues is extremely difficult, even for very good college players. His hitting, especially power, has carried him, but he had too many Ks in college and does not seem to have improved that too much in the pros. To get to the bigs he probably needs to improve on at least one of those. As Blake mentioned, it probably won't be his D that helps him. I worry about our current players for the same reasons. If you can't hit a curve and always chase them you are doomed. A little bit of power and a bad batting average won't get you far unless you are excellent in the field- and that partially depends on the position. Even if you can hit for a reasonable or good average, without some power or an excellent glove and arm for the right position or really good speed it still can be hard to make it.

Is he the one that looked a bit like that in 8th grade? I remember seeing a post awhile back with an 8th grade pic of one of the new guys and he looked like a senior in high school.

Lot of freaks in the 2025 class IMO.

Similar in our home. My youngest son is a basketball junkie. NBA and College, especially the Horns. We’re still in shock from the Luka trade but maybe this #1 pick for the Mavs to get Cooper Flagg will get the team back on track, Back to CC, he wanted her jersey last season and now we look forward to watching Fever games in the summer. Crazy. Impressive what she’s done for the sport and league.

Definitely DJ at lb. Also would like all the guys with Olympic speed in there somewhere. Worthy, Charles and Goodwin. Pair that with big frame Roy and route running technician Shipley along with Colt and that is an offense. Would like Finley as TE but in a few years guys like Arch, Wingo and Townsend could be some great candidates too for offense.
