It wasn't a waste at all. They did NOT underperform. Instead, we as a fan base overrated them. We lost the following to the NFL: 4 starting offensive lineman. our starting tight end, our best receiver and.......oh yea, our starting QB. We should never have expected a CFP appearance. We should be happy we got as close as we did. I'm impressed with this team. We are a couple of inside offensive lineman away from a top 5ish team next year. What more could we ask for?

I support cancelling it if we don't make the playoff. At the end of the day have to send a message that what the committee is doing is idiotic. I'm holding out hope that it won't go down that way, though. If you look at it like they do in CBB we have a very good resume with three really strong wins. -

The wins in Dallas and last night are better than any non natty CFP win imo. We already hit some major goals this year. The Florida loss cooked us in the CFP but now we can focus on building this roster around Arch for next year. Ohio State in Austin looms just 9 months away. Let’s fix our OL and get some serious difference makers around Arch so we’re not hitting 100+ national rankings of ineptitude on offense next season. -

We beat our 3 rivals. We know how to win close games on the road in the SEC. Success, success. Now we just need to get over the hump and beat the elite teams. I think Arch is on a trajectory to be able to do that. We need some better line play, and we need to hit on some RB prospects that bring back the run game. The only thing that disappoints is I feel like our coaching could get a little better schematically. Offense and defense . Sark is amazing at getting recruits and building a culture, just need to be a little better at formulating an advantageous gameplan against elite teams. A lot to ask, but not at Texas where we “expect to be in the conversation for championships.” Sarks words not mine. -

Last night was my 117th home game in a row. And one of my favorites. No playoffs is disappointing. I won’t let it define my fandom. Let’s fix a few things and move on. Hook em -

I agree. We were in denial about offensive turnover especially. We lost 4 starting offensive lineman, our best receiver, our starting tight end and our starting quarterback. We were in rebuild mode. I look forward to next year. -
The season improved especially offensively but I didn't enjoy watching the offensive struggles, a turnstile at left guard most of the season. The run game was abysmal most of the year. The team really didn't play a full game where all three phases played well for an entire 60 minutes. Yesterday's game was probably the closest to that. Didn't enjoy the Ohio state game, San Jose State was a struggle, UTEP was ugly. Kansas was ugly, miss State was ugly, Florida and georgia games were disappointing. Second half vs OU, first half vs Vandy, offense vs Arkansas and Sam Houston State and yesterday's victory were enjoyable. If Texas replicates this season next year it would be a massive disappointment. Its not a complete waste but it fell below the standard that they have set, especially as a pre season number one. They improved tremendously which gives great optimism but the players and staff expected better and as fans, we do too.

Good post. Been a fan since the ‘60’s through thick and thin. This year didn’t meet our bloviated talk and expectations but we over estimated some things and had to develop some players further for next season’s success. We won the golden hat and Lone-star trophies. Got a bowl trophy still to win too. We will likely have to wait another year for the trophy we all wanted. We now have a serious QB and have developed some talented current and future starters. This team is still writing its story too so there is that. -
What bowl do you guys think we'll get? More importantly who is sitting out?
-
If you don't make a playoff you can't compete for a national championship, anything less than playoff birth is failure.

Not unpopular at all. I freaking loved last night. I was in my living room standing most of the time. I couldn't relax. I felt like if I relaxed, the team would relax. I know that's stupid but that's how I felt last night. At half time, I felt A&M was clearly the better team and I thought, "We'd better play like they are a better team" meaning turn Arch into a gun slinger and dial up run blitzes to compensate for inferior line play on both sides of the ball. Instead, the Horns just manned up and whipped them on both fronts. I've never been more proud of this team. -

Not unpopular, exactly right. 9-3 with an outside shot to get in the playoffs. Not a waste. - Today

Good sentiments by all. These message boards frequently frustrate me with all the negativity. “We suck”, “fire everyone”, etc. It has been a roller coaster of a season and I have been disappointed and frustrated at times. But watch the games, and those guys play hard and fight. I love the guys Sark is bringing in and I feel this year’s struggles will translate to more success in the future. -
i think OU/tech/Aggy getting in along with vandy who we beat is what is the most disappointing.
-
Not a waste at all. We had an insanely tough schedule beat 3 top 10 teams, saw a young team mature, and watch Arch get better every week. I’m not counting us out yet. If SMU beats UVA maybe Miami doesn’t get in, maybe the committee shows us they want some insanely big draws and money in the opening round game if they put Texas in against a Tech, Indiana, Oregon, ATM, SMU, UGA, Bama, OU, or OSU at their place. That makes for great ratings AND gives the football world the message games matter, wins or losses not conference championships. We have an argument against every 2 loss team right now. I’d say this season is a great growth season for a program that continues to succeed even when we’re not playing our best ball.
-
Agreed, 9-3 was a reasonable expectation. In my eyes the oline was inexperienced and/or young which should have been changed sooner. Also look at past history in the SEC on how many times someone gets the unexpected upset Ask Lane Kiffin. We also lost a lot of talent with the draft and it caught up to us. These young bucks are showing a positive improvement and trust from Sark. For Sark most everyone is complaining about his play calling. Is it his play calling or timing of the the plays called which I look back is the most likely.

We had to have been the last team Florida played at full strength. They’ve been without nearly all their big time players since the Texas game -
We have most of the team back next year, so the growth and resolve built here and now will be huge in ‘26… wasted would be 7-5 and not showing resolve in those OT games.. wasted would be dropping to OU and A&M. But showing heart and growing is never a waste

I have no problem playing tOSU if our league schedule is weak. Slurp would be in the CFP even if they lost to ND - because they didn’t play anyone in the league until they played us. But if you have three rivalry games, UGA on the road, Vanderbilt, etc., it makes less sense.
