  7. Texas vs San Jose State Game Week Thread The Longhorns play host to San Jose State September 6 in the 2025 home-opener. TV: ABC 11 a.m. central San Jose State SJSU lost their season opener 16-14 to Central Michigan at home. CMU rushed for 247 yards at 4.9 per attempt. The CMU top two RB’s put up 201 yards of the 247 on 31 attempts. CMU totaled 362 yards on 63 plays. QB Walker Eget attempted 43 passes in the loss, and had two rough interceptions in the opener. Both were ill-advised throws. If he repeats decisions close to that September 6, Texas will likely get a pick six opportunity. Eget also had a lost fumble in the game. SJSU posted 383 yards on 67 offensive plays.
  8. As a Buckeye fan I will admit it was a close game. I also felt Ohio State was in control the majority of the game. Texas first score in the game was with 3:28 remaining in the 4th qtr and OSU was up 14-0 at that point. Patricia and the defense were not blitzing nearly as much and keeping everything in front of them and trying to limit any big plays. The yardage does not tell the story of the game. Neither does any "If's" Hell Sayin missed seeing a wide open Smith for n EZ TD- I dont count that as a what if, it is a rookie mistake Come the 4th qtr once up by 14 we were keeping the ball on the ground to chew clock. Now I did get concerned when Texas was at Mid field with a minute or so left. To early to say if either team is a top 3 team, but I believe both teams will look much different come play off time. Like Texas, OSU has a couple cup cakes to get our offense to gel and build some confidence for our young QB. Good luck the rest of the way to the Long Horns. Maybe we see each other again Dec/Jan. My concerns for each team. OSU Running game. Texas WR room.
  9. I think he’s moved it from player to player and team to team. He has typically tried to be a power run team up the middle while getting receivers the ball in space. Some teams have been more successful at that than others.

  11. I don’t think that’s a very fair characterization. Playing at home in your first start against a top-5 opponent is very different from doing so on the road. Quinn Ewers outplayed Bryce Young and looked like a future #1 pick in his second game ever. That was at home and he almost never looked that good again. Raiola, Nico, Kevin Rourke—they all had very similar stat lines at the Shoe. Allar did too and that was at Penn State! I have a hard time believing the qb play on both teams would have looked exactly like that if the game had been played in Austin. I think we need to slow down and see how Arch and Sayin evolve over the season before making strong comparisons.
  12. But can't we say the same? If things click our way, you guys are looking at 21-0 the other way. I wouldn't say it was a domination. Outside of some lucky plays by our O, we shut it down and our O sh*t the bed when we needed them to score. Either way, I'm not going to argue with you. Congrats on the win.
  13. I saw several games this weekend t hat did similar. They need to figure something out there. Between the 20's, Sark is great, once the field gets condensed he loses his mojo and over thinks it.

  15. You guys still had significantly less yardage going into the 4th and couldn’t move the ball on Texas. Both offenses struggled. Where are you getting the Texas is lucky it didn’t lose 21-0 narrative from? Credit to Ohio State but it squeezed out every point it possibly could. It had 2 drives cross the 50 and punched it in on 4th and goal from the one after getting stuffed the 3 previous plays. Ohio State only had 2 opportunities to score points and it did so twice (once because of 2 penalties extending drives). Texas had like 4 opportunities to actually get points and only scored once (one was a drop in the endzone). This isn’t me trying to discredit Ohio State, but your use of “domination” goes both ways as in the defenses dominated the offenses. It was a 14-7 game buddy with Texas at mid field with about 1 min to go. Not sure why it is hard for you to just admit that it was a close game ha.
  16. As far as an identity this year i hope for arch’s sake it is screens, short game, heavy run with play action off of that. As far as an offensive identity here at texas under sark i can’t really come up with anything concrete. I thought about it over the last few days, But it’s a bit worrisome that in the last two years we’re becoming more known for defense under a “offensive guru” head coach.
  17. They knew where it was going, not a great idea at all. Half their D is crashing the line. How many guys is Hutson supposed to block, 3 guys crashing right at him. At least a hand off to Baxter gives him a chance, imo.
  18. This is a bit revisionist and somewhat delusional. Ohio state was essentially losing the yardage battle etc all game. You guys crossed the 50 yard line like twice and penalties significantly aided your first td drive. This game was decided on like 3 or 4 plays that went Ohio State’s way. Mainly coming down to Texas going 0/2 in the redzone and Ohio State going 1 for 1. Acting like Texas was putting up empty calorie garbage time yardage is disingenuous. Acting like this was anything but an ugly hard fought game between 2 relatively even matched teams is delusional. And your other comment about Saying being better than Arch already is way too premature lol. If you know ball, you know one off results and head to head matchups don’t provide full context especially when one QB is on start 3 and another is on start 1 (it was Arch’s first road start in a hostile environment). Using your logic, that would be like me saying Michigan’s QB last year was already better than Will Howard haha. Arch didn’t have a good game. No sugarcoating it. He isn’t automatically a bust now because of it. He will have down games his 1st year starting.
  19. What would you say our offensive identity is under Sarkisian as the play caller? I honestly think we don’t truly have an identity…and this is not just about this game this is his entire tenure here as offensive coordinator.

I know Brooks is slated as a T and I'm fine with that but talking about next year's OL (I know, I know lol) would we benefit from putting him at G, assuming T depth is sorted, if Goosby comes back? That way you'd have assumed starters of LT - Goosby, LG - Stroh, C - Cruz, RG - Brooks, RT - Baker. Anyway, just a hypothetical I was thinking about. Good write up, per usual.
  21. Five years ago, we would not have had the players to compete in this game. Credit Sark for recruiting elite talent to put us in position to win. Execution and communication were critical and were unfortunately missing. Go Horns.
  22. And let me just say, when I say Arch was too scripted, it was in the context of a Matt Patricia defense that thoroughly confused him in the first half. In a script you want to see what you are told you will see, IMO he was confused and petrified a little (maybe a lot) when he didn’t see what he expected. All credit to Patricia. This is just a hunch of course, but seems plausible. His mechanics and football play haven’t ever been this bad. There is no pattern or trend for what happened in that first half.
  23. I don’t think we will know anything with success until Florida. He will probably play great and rah, rah, but will we really know how he will handle the swamp against a competent Florida defense? No. (Sorry to the teams we play next, no disrespect). I guess if he plays bad against inferior competition that will be a red flag though. I hope not, Arch is great. Hope he succeeds for sure.
