Many things I like about this model: 1) Further supports playing a big time non-conference game early and allowing teams to gel in Sept/Oct. This helps further emphasize the value of gaining experience against tough opponents and 3 losses in now way eliminates a team from contention. 2) Conf championship games have become a joke. Recognize conference champion based on regular season results. No reason to play that extra game when many other teams in playoffs do not play in conf championship. 3) Top 8 teams get a bye. Top 16 teams all get to host a home playoff game. This is a win all the way around for campus games and for Top 8 teams out of regular season. A true reward for regular season results. 4) Makes the regular season even more exciting for broader base of teams who have a real shot to prove it on the field. Every game is interesting for different reasons. 5) Financially makes sense with 12 additional games and 10 of those can be bid to competing networks (or streaming partners). 6) Eliminates special treatment for ND and diminishes impact of including non Power 4 champion. 7) Full month of December would become a better bigger version of "March Madness". This would be the best home game of the season for 16 teams in December. 2nd weekend of the month is first round. 3rd weekend of the month is second round . All 16 teams know by early December where they are playing and can plan for attendance way in advance. 8. I hate the different proposals for 16 teams with subset of teams playing first round, wacky number of byes for different teams, AQs to teams who aren't even a top 20 team potentially and too complex of a playoff format. Love this model for its symmetry, equal treatment to all teams with clear benefit to top 8 teams with bye and home field. Everyone fighting to make Top 8. Hook em!!

taxsaver started following 2026 Running Game
-
Now that Manning knows how to use his God-given talent he will be able to open up the running game because he's going to throw for a bazillion yards and defenses cannot defend a guy who can throw on the run AND run like he's on fire.

I also like Stephen A Smith's rant about Notre Dame getting special treatment next year in current agreement. What if Texas were ranked #11 but got knocked out of playoffs by #12 Notre Dame due to their AQ status? Current model has many issues to be remedied, including the fact that the conference championships put those teams at big disadvantage of playing extra game (especially the losers) going into the playoffs then the fact that the top seeded teams do not currently get opportunity to host a playoff game at their home campuses is crazy.

I've posted my support for this 24-team playoff model over the past year (8 home playoff games in round 1 hosted by seeds 9-16 followed by 8 playoff games hosted by first round byes, seeded 1-8) with the remainder of the playoff schedule resembling current format. Conference championship games (which have become a complete joke) go away and no team would have a crazy 3-4 week bye period in December. The Top 16 teams all host 1 playoff game at home. Love it. As usual, I expect to get blasted by others with the rationale that this expanded format somehow diminishes the regular season (suggesting, I guess, that the regular season is somehow an equitable barometer between teams like Texas who play OSU and 4 other Top 10 teams versus other teams that qualified and didn't play a single Top 10 team all season). This latest proposal seems like a big move in a constructive direction as Big 10 has moved off of their previous mandate for an obscene number of automatic qualifiers for Big 10 and SEC. It's simply the Top 23 teams seeded. Last season, the SEC would have had the most teams qualify with 7 SEC teams and 6 Big 10 followed by 5 Big 12 Teams and only 3 ACC plus ND and a G5. Put another way, each team's performance on the field sets the seeding but allows inequity in schedules to be settled through the expanded playoffs. Curious what others think. Seems destined to either move to 16 or 24, but the Big 10 now offering a way to remedy the financial loss of conference championship games (proposing 10 new playoff games get packaged and put into media bidding war) and no AQs would seem to make the 24 team model much more appealing, especially the idea that the Top 16 teams all get to host 1 home playoff game. I love that aspect to this model plus many other elements. Hook em!! https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/47917988/big-ten-eyes-24-team-cfp-no-league-championship-games

eventually players will learn and adjust. Sucks that there will have to be cases like this for others to learn from.

That’s sad for him really. I know it’s a business now but these dudes are young and being told you would be starting when you had other options out there just for this to happen sweeps that rug right out from under him with no where to go. It’s not like he can jump back in the portal now

Lots to be optimistic about for sure heading into the 2026 season. Decent OL play in the run game is going to huge in helping the entire offense be productive.
-
Seeing the fallout from Chambliss ruling. Apparently Duece was told he would be starting no matter what. Now he has scrubbed all Ole miss from his social this morning.

So many things to be excited about next season but this one is the top of my list. Brown & Smothers just a deadly 1 2 punch with break away ability and great hands. Then we bring out Blue Chip Freshman Cooper to spell these guys or possibly be our short yardage back.. Not to mention Manning who can also take it to the house. Play action will be much more effective this year. Just need offensive line to be slightly above avg in run blocking.

Women’s BBall coach post game reaction
LonghornFan4Ever replied to TexasMDcoach's topic in On Texas Football Forum
That was my first thought too. Vic has obviously been watching Sean Miller's press conferences after they lose and said lemme try that and see if can get through to this team. Gotta see how they respond in Knoxville Sunday afternoon. -

I loved it. Light a fire under your team. Miller did the same thing this year with Pope, Volkietaitis, Wilcher and Codie. For the most part, it's worked. -
This deserves to be posted. I love this guy. He affirms his players like no one’s business but last night he laid it down and said what needed to be said.

Carlton played for 7-8 minutes the entire game. There is not enough evidence that she lacked heart, or toughness last night. -
In high-stakes recruiting, the school that hosts the final official visit is generally considered to be in the most advantageous position. LSU: May 28, 2026 Tennessee: June 5–7, 2026 Florida: June 11–13, 2026 Texas: June 19–21, 2026

When is his OV to Texas? It's after this one, correct?

Probably the most overused excuse in coaching. There are situations it fits but I don’t think this was one of them. Big fan of Vic and what he’s done with the program though. Think he gets too emotional (both high and low) in his pressers. For example, talking about how all his players do is whine. He’s probably in the refs ear more than any coach in the conference. Those kind of things might not play well in the locker room. We shall see if he pushed the right buttons. I hope so and odds are he did as his resume speaks for itself. -
Feel good about Easton's relationship with Chris Jackson. LSU and Lane Kiffin will fight till to keep him home, but Texas will counter with whatever it takes to get him on campus.

We’ll be fine in Knoxville. Different team and a different matchup. Blakes and Galvan may be the best backcourt duo in the nation. -
He is going to take OVs to other schools, so just chill.

I love it too but this team had been fighting hard outside of couple games this year. There’s a toll that’s taken by this time of year when you only played 7 players for an extended period early in the season. Our focus wasn’t good but Rory looked tired tonight and you put her on the best player in the nation. Players missed too many bunnies on offense but the scout was bad with the defensive matchups. Not adjusting that quick enough allowed them to balloon a huge lead. When a team is shooting 75% on you, you gotta make an adjustment which we didn’t. Vandy did to us what we usually do to teams so kudos to them. We’ll be more ready next time like you saw against LSU. -

Scout did a poor job defensively. Rory matching up on Blakes was bad and Lee bit on every move Galvan gave her. We stayed in that match up for most of the first half which led to 60%+ shooting for them. Even switching Lee on Blakes and Rory on Galvan would have made much more sense. Bri and Maddie held them more in check in the 2nd half. This felt like the LSU loss where I thought the scouting and gameplan was bad as well. The heart comment Vic made was clearly at Carlton, Lee, and Rory tonight. Rory and Carlton looked tired tonight and Lee was trying but failing defending Galvan. It’s a shame because Lee had her 3pt stroke tonight and we needed it late in the game but because of how it went defensively, she didn’t play at all in the 4th.
