  1. Past hour
  2. Which is all the more reason it's insane to say he was a top pro prospect, which is the comment I was responding to.
  3. He was a freshman...
  4. There is nothing Brooks showed on the actual football field to make him a NFL prospect right now. Does it mean he could eventually be one? Sure. But at some point the high school ranking needs to be placed to the side when we start seeing actual on-field production.
  5. Brooks was considered the top pro prospect, including Goosby.
  6. If you look beyond the top echelon teams-a lot of lower ranked teams have revenue sharing to throw at lower ranked players on higher ranked teams, so the incentive is for the player to go develop and get paid. People forget that most teams have 15+ million to share with their players. This just creates inflation at the top and top tier teams will have to cover that 15+ million “new money” and then what they were already paying. I give this thing three years before legislation takes over and it gets flushed. We better get our natty now.
  7. Elite OL Herry Gamilton @Gerry Hamilton is expected to enter the Transfer Portal, sources have confirmed. Texas is expected to be a heavy player in this recruitment, and is preparing a significant NIL package for Gamilton’s services.
  8. I actually think it speaks to bad evaluations more than anything. Flood’s strategy of recruiting mammoths who can’t move well hasn’t really paid off. Also could speak to poor development. But either way, not one of the departing OL was in any way ready to make a contribution this year and there’s no indication that they’d be any good thereafter. Again, it’s an indictment of Flood’s evaluation and development as much as as anything. That being said, getting dudes to hit on the OL has always been a crapshoot and takes years.
  9. Still waiting on your first embedded post, my friend.
  10. Hard to pay guys second string money when there being offered starter money at other schools and you have a budget
  11. A) They didn't lose 7 guys. Check your math. B) We started a player in 2014 who had a nickname centered around the fact that he didn't like contact C) If the locker room is so bad why did all the good players at the position happen to return?
  12. This is objectively worse than Charlie Strong's OL situation. Sark & Flood have a chance to add more bodies than Strong could, but losing 7 guys in two weeks is a pretty damning indictment of something bad going on in that locker room. It's beyond roster management.
  13. It says Arkansas has the easiest schedule, and we're next
  14. Press on what you want to save. Save it to photos. Insert in your comment.
  15. Not sure if this is tongue in cheek, but I actually think it’s correct. For every Vernon Broughton Texas opts not to retain, there will be a Jalen Walker available in the portal. For every Jaydon Blue, there’s a Raleek Brown. You potentially miss on high-impact, NFL draft pick type players that you’re not willing to wait on, but you can potentially substitute in future NFL first-rounders in their place. Not saying one way is better than the other, and not many schools can do it the second way like Texas can. But that’s why it’s good to be the king.
  16. It happens to every team, but there has been quite a bit of time and resources wasted on offensive lineman with questionable mental evals the last few years, then throw in that we let Felix Ojo play us like a fiddle for half the recruiting cycle while other dudes went elsewhere.
  17. hopefully we can talk Brooks out of entering the portal
  18. Good take, CJ. The landscape has changed immensely. IMHO, it's lazy to blame Flood for the loss of Brooks (he can be blamed for other things). The likelihood he has been recruited behind the scenes to a school who will feature him as a starter is almost a certainty. Texas will continue to lose key long-term project linemen in the new era unless something changes. We will also gain key pieces, so I think we're monitoring the new ways to see what becomes a norm vs a bad portal year when it comes to OL and other key positions.
  19. Texas will continue to recruit the Kelvin Banks’ of the HS world.
  20. Still needs those big fish for this year.
  21. Saban used to sell recruits the value of developing in the early years with elite and developed athletes going to the NFL. Now the temptation is to go to lesser ranked programs to play earlier and get paid, but practicing against a lower tier of teammates with the hope of transferring up in later years. Will be a challenge to compare which model works best for the NFL.
