On the 2025 class: Sarkisian says there is a real developmental aspect to that class entering year two that gets forgotten in a world of instant gratification.

On overall depth: “it feels good” after day one.

“Being really efficient and having a strong rapport with the receivers and offensive line.” would classify as a successful fall camp for Arch says Sarkisian.

For the freshmen, the biggest key or point of emphasis for Sarkisian when asked what the best indicator might be for those guys to contribute immediately: ”do they know what to do consistently.”

“One thing I was impressed with today… I thought our coaches were getting after it today.” Sark says he felt his coaches today make an impact on day one of practice. Mentions how important they are to the culture.

Added Derrek Cooper looks really impressive as a freshman body as well.

Sarkisian says Ian Geffrard has dropped about 25 pounds since arriving in the winter.

Sarkisian says the staff tries to make practice as intense as possible with the added idea of “group punishment” for penalties to help get that number down in 2026.

Sark says it was a good day for Arch Manning on day one.

Sark says Texas had 5 cramps today, “it was one of our least cramped days” on a first day. Sark joked that year one there were probably 38.

Yes, DeSoto was 5a went to 6a and now are 5a again. The point was, regardless if they are 5a or 6a, you were right in the competition disparity between Timpson and Willis. They are different. However, a measurable and a skill set are the same no matter what the competition is. Adrian Peterson was at 3a Palestine, but his measurables and skill set were not disputable. They translated to a pretty good college and pro career. Production and records are where comparisons are difficult, and subjective observations can be tricky as well because the context of competition. Bussey and Bishop, however, were both celebrated 5-stars because of their speed, quickness, and elusiveness, in their normal offense and on special teams, not because of their overall numbers or observations against inferior competition. That is why I asked how the compared to each other in the measurables and skill set, and not in production.

We're roughly 30 minutes away from Steve Sarkisian meeting with the media after Wednesday's camp practice, which was the first for the Longhorns. We'll have updates from Sark coming off the practice field, with 31 days remaining until Texas opens the 2026 season at home against Texas State.
