I say scrap the conference championship game. Push the playoffs up a bit and maybe extend the portal season another week. There's too much downtime and I think it's stupid. There is no reason to wait as long as they do.

Fair enough, but as I said the players wanted this and now they have to deal with the consequences. You are responsible for who you let represent you. At some point you need to make decisions for yourself not just let another party do it for you. I think there needs to be something done to not only have player agency but also to protect the schools. Because right now it seems like ever off-season you're going to lose 20-30 players, if not more and have to try and scramble to fill those spots. That does not seem enticing, at all. On the flip side, we have a bunch of kids who got bad advice and are now going to be out of a scholarship, because they let someone else convince they can do better elsewhere. It's a complete sh*t show.

I absolutely do not agree. I would much rather have an exciting early season game to look forward to than play a meaningless game against a directional team. Things didn't work out for the team to make the playoff this past season, but to me that doesn't automatically mean we need to drop all games against P4 non conference teams in the future. Maybe don't schedule non conference games against the best of the best, going forward, but backing out of games is pretty cowardly if you ask me when you're a program like Texas with every possible advantage who should be able to compete with anybody.

I was sitting by former Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk on a VIP (not me!) bus back to Downtown after the game. Ron Kirk ( a UT Law grad I think) said it was "perfect that a player named 'Bubba' won the game for Texas!" Hook 'Em!

The current CFB season format just doesn't feel like it's the best college football could offer. Mainly the Championship game happens too late after a long season and the conference championship games seem to only be important to the teams that need to win those games or miss out on the playoffs. Given the current "leadership" of CFB and the demands of the BIG Ten, I'm not optimistic that we'll see significant changes in the near term future.

RIP James Street. On the national TV broadcast of the game at #2 Arkansas on ABC, the late Chris Schenkel called him "Jimmy Street," and made him sound like a junior high kid. He was an outstanding Senior QB and Pitcher for the University of Texas. Some media types called him James "Slick" Street because of his ball handling skills as UT's Wishbone QB and his super confident demeanor. Street played an outstanding game in Fayetteville in December, 1969, leading the #1 Longhorns to the National Championship over the Razorbacks in what was called "The Big Shootout." I was a high school freshman on a losing football team and although I was already a Longhorns fan, after watching that game on TV with my late father, I told him I wanted to go to Texas. Knowing I couldn't play college football at the Southwest Conference level, I just wanted to sit in the Student Section at Memorial Stadium and cheer for Texas and players like James Street. Hook 'Em OTF!
