Even as Muschamp has evolved as a coach, he hasn’t deviated from the Bill Belichick/Nick Saban requirements for defensive backs: you’ve got to be willing tackler, you’ve got be able to play man-to-man coverage and you must be able to defend the deep ball.

Muschamp: “You create havoc when you get hands on the ball.”

Whenever they show the players running in groups, there is one guy 10 yards ahead of everyone else.

Muschamp: “You win in bump-and-run on the line of scrimmage.”

Muschamp says recruiting the state of Texas is somewhat tricky due to players receiving such great coaching in school, lifting since 7th grade. The question when recruiting the state of Texas is how much better can they potentially be when they get to UT.

Muschamp admits something I’ve long expected: He loves defensive backs who played quarterback in high school. That position requires leadership, communication and decision making.

Can he catch & score touchdowns with that speed at the college level is the real question

Muschamp just described Earl Thomas as “one of the best I’ve ever coached” due to his instincts.

Those who’ve been clamoring for tighter, more aggressive coverage from the Texas defensive backs, Muschamp is bringing that approach to the table.

When Muschamp was at Auburn in 2015 under Gus Malzahn, every defensive back that came through the program spent time in the NFL.
