  1. Past hour
  2. There's the locker room dynamic of this as well. To this point, there hasn't been a team that ridiculously overpaid high school recruits and made it work with team culture and chemistry. Aggy '22 class being a prime example. Legally, I'd guess some things will happen quickly. The likelihood of the clearing house being able to reject third party payments is preposterous on its face. I can't think of a high profile example of anything like it in US history. I doubt the "affiliated" cap on NIL deals last very long, but it may make it through this cycle. What's affiliated? Who decides? The clearing house is not a disinterested third party. All to say, those schools that have kept spending like there's no tomorrow will at best face a period of legal limbo that's unlikely to permit them to hang on to most of the funny money deals.
  3. Doesn’t the clearinghouse weigh in on whether the NIL is at market rather than a work around sham? It’s not about how much the athlete is worth. The market determines what they are worth
  4. Sark always seems to be ahead of the curve. When I read Bobby’s comments it makes me think he isn’t ahead of the curve anymore. How could any coach be ahead of the curve? House settlement says go this way, some schools say no let’s go this way, athlete says I am not happy, so it’s back to the courts again. Texas is not the only school with this problem. That’s the positive side of things. We wait to see what happens to those who are not following the settlement in the courts.
  5. Not something that needs to be called out by name but those athletes should be commended for the team first mentality. I dont recall seeing this anywhere else. Thanks Bobby
  6. Likely not paying attention to the settlement at all. It all goes back to determining what a player is worth. What school is qualified to determine that? What clearinghouse is qualified to do that? So it heads back to the courts.
  7. Though it's frustrating, if what Bobby said about Sark focusing on the roster versus high school recruits, I'm good with it. Like the great DKR said, dance with the one that brung ya.
  8. Today
  9. Some already have and not just because they’re from well off families but because they want to build a better team.
  10. Agree on August 1st. The op was talking about flipping guys at a later date like previous years. If they break the contract then any money spent would likely have to be paid back. Who’s going to pay it back for them? Then Texas would have to at least match that NIL to get their services. If that’s the case, then why don’t they do that now? Texas has stepped into numerous blueblood backyards and is finishing second. They have to replace those guys with players of equal talent, and that’s if any of those guys are left. Then they have to explain why they didn’t prioritize them first. Counting on winning and culture to get them to take less NIL this year won’t work. And it’s because they will have already taken money from the school they chose first. And when a player does decide to do that, college sports is back in the courts again. It’s just a big mess now.
  11. Deals had to start being reported immediately after settlement got approved. So, those deals have to be reported to the NIL clearinghouse and count towards the $20.5M cap. I think the schools that are still paying high money are banking on either no enforcement or a loophole they think they’ve found.
  12. Ref the new 'Salary Cap" would some of your higher value athletes that happen to come from well off families ie manning soon to be dia bell offer a discounted price to get better talent around them to be more competitive especially come playoff time?
  13. This will be interesting. My understanding is that deals for this cycle haven't been officially put in writing and signed yet. That's the August 1 deal. Could they have had up front payments for committing? Sure, but that's not the same thing as a signed two year contract. What's "affiliated" and what's "true" NIL? We don't know that yet. I agree that's it's likely the courts will alter this substantially; but while that plays out in court, these high school kids aren't likely to patiently wait.
  14. My bad man. I promised my wife barely any work and all vacation. I will have them in morning, plus it was better I waited as I got more info.
  15. Difference is these guys are most likely signing two year contracts that are front loaded for the first year. Totally different than previous years.
  16. Why did you think that? This will go back to the courts again. The settlement did nothing but create more instability. I never understood why it was mentioned so much.
  17. Kiper is the biggest gas bag in the industry. I was secretly disappointed when he didn't fully have a stroke on live TV waiting for the Browns to take their 13th QB.
  18. I think we might have dodged a bullet. I never liked all the public statements he made about being #1 target, best in the country, going up to rivals to dominate, etc...He seemed to have bought in to the hype and didn't back it up. He might develop...but the mental profile to me didn't match what we are looking for in serious 5 star recruits. Compare to John Turntine journey...Take Turntine all day.
  19. NCAA settled because if they didn’t the results would probably be bankruptcy!
  20. Texas is paying a large part of the NIL cap retaining its current roster while most or paying recruits.
  21. They just created more of a mess then they were probably ready for…good luck in court to them at some point lmao😭
  22. Putting the genie back in the bottle NEVER works!!!

  24. And if Texas does things right…they’re going to come out smelling like roses.
  25. August 1 will initiate an interesting transition point in this cycle. Deals can be put in writing and submitted. Likely to see a number of high profile decommitments popping up by mid to late August. Likely to see player initiated lawsuits too. You know that most of the crazy dollar deals for high school recruits are based in "affiliated" NIL. We'll see how that's enforced and how the clearing house fairs in court.
  26. I don’t think everyone who actually gets whats going on is panicking, its just the ugly truth that anyone can get bought for their services now. Its a miss but not a crippling one, it is what it is.
