Penalties - What needs to be done?
Assistant Regional Manager replied to Hashtag's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Is it a feature under Sark, or is it a feature of being at Texas? In the last 15 years, we have never once ranked better than 40th in penalties. Here is some years further back than what you listed: 2020- 116th (8.2) 2019- 115th (7.3) 2018- 109th (7.4) 2017- 106th (7.1) 2016- 102nd (7.1) 2015- 79th (6.4) 2014- 65th (5.9) 2013- 45th (5.2) 2012- 40th (5.2) 2011- 81st (6.5) -Texas gets officiated differently from other teams, whether intentionally or unintentionally. We went the entire 2023 season with 1 accepted holding penalty against our opponent in Big 12 play. 15 years in a row being one of the most penalized teams in the country under 4 different coaches. That isn't just a coincidence. -Timing of penalties. On Saturday, 3 of our 9 penalties were on the final offensive drive with third-stringers in the game. 4 of our 12 penalties against SJSU came on the final two drives with backups in the game. A lot of the miscues have been at the very beginning or very end of games. -Penalties are up across the country. Last year, only 26 total teams averaged more than 7 penalties a game. Currently, 49 teams are averaging 7 or more penalties. -All you can do is try to emphasize it the best you can. There isn't a magic wand. -
What I thought was important was how the team came out in the second half. Regardless of opponent, being able to continue through the halftime break and still be hot for the offense was crucial in that confidence boost. One day at a time, one practice at a time, one game at a time. Trust the process.

What is everyone's thoughts on penalties? Being a highly penalized team just seems to be a feature under Sark. What can be done to fix this moving forward, can it be fixed? Year - NCAA Rank(Penalties Per Game) 2024 - 94(6.4) 2023 - 99(6.6) 2022 - 68(6.1) 2021 - 58(5.8) As far as 2025 goes this is what we're looking at through non-conference: 2025 - 121(8.5)

According to the ESPN app, the Florida game on 10/4 will be at 2:30pm. We catch a break avoiding a night game in the Swamp.

Backup NFL QB has to be the best jobs in sports, especially if you're considered one of the top backups in the league. Career Earnings of Notable Backups: Chase Daniel - 4+ mill Colt McCoy - 25+ mill Jacoby Brisett - 30+ mill Tyrod Taylor - 40+ mill Andy Dalton - 30+ mill Marcus Mariota - 30+ mill Gardner Minshew - 15+ mill Jameis and Wentz will end up making a ton as backups.

But nothing NFL was posted ... that's just you. Colt McCoy held a clip board for 20+ million, but played at a very high level in college without being a high-end down field arm talent. As far as Mendoza and ability to make throws down the field ... he made plenty at Cal last year https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KbWbZ4TkIRo&t=131s He'll be an interesting NFL eval prospect

25-26 Director's Cup Thread

Here is an interesting stat, Texas has 145 shots with 66 on goal and their opponents also have 145 shots with 69 on goal. The difference, Texas has 15 goals while their opponents have 24. This could reflect less effective defense comparatively, but more than likely it means we have worse goalie play compared to our opponents. We are scoring 1.5 goals a game and giving up 2.4. Last year we scored 2.2 goals a game and only gave up 0.86. That is a goal per game difference of -2.24 goals between the two years. -
Some of the free rushers to Baker's side have absolutely been schemed or checked into by the QB. Arch did it last year against MSU as well. If they bring 6 and we block with 5, one edge is coming free.
-
I don't think i've seen anything remotely close to this from Baker. I'll beat this drum until he proves me wrong but he is a weak link right now on the Oline. I've seen numerous free rushers from his side. Maybe its a scheme thing, but i don't think Flood and Sark are scheming for free rushers.

I am good. Came over to this great site and left the other even though I was one of the original members. I just needed a change. We stick to football here. I really like that. -

Never overlook special teams, this phase should be a neutral or win. -
SEC Reveals Repeat Football Opponents

It's fairly balanced considering "usual" annual performance expectations of powerhouses vs cakewalks. -
Encouraging stuff here. On the rewatch, there is plenty that Brooks will need to clean up, but that of course is to be expected in a true freshman's first time seeing the field. Yet often you see him climbing with success to the second level. Brooks moving as well as he does at his size is such a weapon for the Horns. This was an awesome rep here.

It was a foregone conclusion for us. Arkansas is meh for me other than what should be a fairly easy win most years. I’d rather have LSU or Georgia but I knew what it would be. Kinda jelly OU got Ole Miss. I’d love to go to Oxford every other year -
the Bama guy calling Paul gets me everytime
