Deals had to start being reported immediately after settlement got approved. So, those deals have to be reported to the NIL clearinghouse and count towards the $20.5M cap. I think the schools that are still paying high money are banking on either no enforcement or a loophole they think they’ve found.
-
Ref the new 'Salary Cap" would some of your higher value athletes that happen to come from well off families ie manning soon to be dia bell offer a discounted price to get better talent around them to be more competitive especially come playoff time?
-
This will be interesting. My understanding is that deals for this cycle haven't been officially put in writing and signed yet. That's the August 1 deal. Could they have had up front payments for committing? Sure, but that's not the same thing as a signed two year contract. What's "affiliated" and what's "true" NIL? We don't know that yet. I agree that's it's likely the courts will alter this substantially; but while that plays out in court, these high school kids aren't likely to patiently wait.
-
Difference is these guys are most likely signing two year contracts that are front loaded for the first year. Totally different than previous years.
-
Why did you think that? This will go back to the courts again. The settlement did nothing but create more instability. I never understood why it was mentioned so much.

I think we might have dodged a bullet. I never liked all the public statements he made about being #1 target, best in the country, going up to rivals to dominate, etc...He seemed to have bought in to the hype and didn't back it up. He might develop...but the mental profile to me didn't match what we are looking for in serious 5 star recruits. Compare to John Turntine journey...Take Turntine all day.

NCAA settled because if they didn’t the results would probably be bankruptcy!
-
Texas is paying a large part of the NIL cap retaining its current roster while most or paying recruits.
-
They just created more of a mess then they were probably ready for…good luck in court to them at some point lmao😭

Putting the genie back in the bottle NEVER works!!!

And if Texas does things right…they’re going to come out smelling like roses.

August 1 will initiate an interesting transition point in this cycle. Deals can be put in writing and submitted. Likely to see a number of high profile decommitments popping up by mid to late August. Likely to see player initiated lawsuits too. You know that most of the crazy dollar deals for high school recruits are based in "affiliated" NIL. We'll see how that's enforced and how the clearing house fairs in court.
-
I don’t think everyone who actually gets whats going on is panicking, its just the ugly truth that anyone can get bought for their services now. Its a miss but not a crippling one, it is what it is.
-
Oooooh noooo we don’t have a top 5 class in july. Sark & staff have never done this and need to get it together.

This is entirely predictable because of the uncertainty around interpretation and enforcement of the House ruling. It will settle. Texas has clearly decided to emphasize roster retention over high school recruiting during the time of instability. It's the best plan.
-
This was funny because I think NCAA tried to sell bad goods - they knew settlement would do the same crap as before NIL. The NCAA is just such a bad governing body.
-
it sucks but i mean im not worried, teams are going to spend and promise too much. And once that happens even more chaos will probably break
-
I’m still dumbfounded by this entire thing. I originally thought the new settlement would calm the waters of NIL but it’s only brought more chaos & uncertainty
-
Its a new day of age unfortunately, at least it looks like were gonna get Turntine hopefully. Just a little vent thread though have at it.
-
Paying millions of dollars to a kid that has no chance to play anytime soon is a waste of money. He just got whipped at that 5 star camp. When he’s ready to play McGuire won’t even be the coach at tech still.
-
2/11 after Turntine commits tmr, 18% commit rate in the last 2 weeks… not going to cut it…when is it time to be concerned

Laugh all you want this is a definite possibility period
