Nuggets on the RB Spot

***

Have been told freshman Michael Terry III has been working almost exclusively at the running back position since the regular season concluded.

I had heard some buzz surrounding Terry's development as a receiver as the second half of the season had carried on, but now there is buzz about his ability in the backfield that has folks excited. With CJ Baxter and Jerrick Gibson in the portal, it would not come as a surprise if Terry saw a carry or two in the bowl game vs. Michigan.

Right now, Christian Clark and James Simon remain in the room alongside Tre Wisner. Terry adds a 4th option.

Will be interesting to follow.

On the RB coaching search, I have heard Steve Sarkisian has narrowed down his candidates and that an announcement could come soon regarding the next running backs coach at The University of Texas.

That's all I have for now.

Offensive lineman Connor Stroh practiced Monday and Tuesday with the program, but following his portal entry, he was no longer present for the back half of the week at practice.

Additionally, and to @Bobby Burton's point earlier in the week, it sounds like the full starting lineup remains at practice and plans to participate in some degree in the bowl game on December 31.

Blink twice if Christian Clark is on your list of portal candidates 😂 Maybe someone will emerge from this group and surprise us in the bowl game. That’ll give us lots to talk about all offseason. Thanks, CJ!

I think Clark understands he needs to develop a bit more and he has a path to the field at Texas right now as it stands. I’d like to keep him and see what he’s able to do with a full off season and spring to get strong, learn the offense, and back fully healthy

Did you mean the offensive starters?  Or are Hill and Burke practicing, as well?

If the RB coach decision comes this soon, that should mean that Sark got his first choice, probably Juluke or Wilson.

I think you are onto something

I'd like to see some 21 personnel with Townsend and Terry as H Backs some day.

Could be one day. Won't be this year.

Terry actually saw some time in practice this week as the returnman on kickoff return. They are moving him around, looking to utilize his talent this season.

CJ this time next year is Terry a RB or WR?

My initial thought is WR, but I have heard he looks like a natural at RB. Texas moved him there in the middle of the season as a scout team back, I believe to replicate Jadan Baugh running style, then he split time at WR and RB until fulling moving to RB recently.

I guess it will depend on the new RB hire and what he thinks, but it sounds like he is really starting to turn heads at RB

We need to see Texas go away from 12 personnel being our base.

I'm talking a fun 21 set with some size and speed at the skill positions. Like a Derek Cooper and Michael Terry in the backfield with Townsend lined up at TE. Lot of dudes to account for + Arch.

I'm excited to see MT III getting work at RB, I want to see him getting some on field work.

I agree with you, it’s much more versatile. Just adding the above as well.

The developments of michael terry and jonah williams is concerning if they will ever reach their full potential. One can’t stick to one position to get the full benefits and the other chooses another sport during the spring when that’s best time to get meaningful reps.

Jonah likes football but loves baseball. Do with that information whatever you like.

But Jonah came to Texas to play football.  If he loved baseball, he would have stayed in HS for the MLB draft.
