Rio Bravo (1959) The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966) High Plains Drifter (1973) Unforgiven (1992) No Country for Old Men (2007) I would add: A Man Called Horse, Open Range, and of course, Lonesome Dove. I met Larry McMurtry and Cormac McCarthy in San Marcos 2010 at the 25th anniversary conference for Blood Meridian. McMurtry lamented that Blood Meridian would outlast Lonesome Dove in the long run. I told McCarthy I thought he based Blood Meridian on Plato. He looked at me for about five seconds and said, "Well, yeah. No one has ever said that to me." Quote
