Shmatt Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Interesting, potential is there but will Texas ever fully commit to it in the NIL age is the question imo. 7 Quote
LonghornFan4Ever Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I disagree with Texas being as high as they are, unless they're just basing that off of potential. Florida, Arkansas, and Auburn should be in the top five because they have won national championships or made multiple Final Four appearances as members of the SEC. However, the NIL era has shown us that your past history in a sport doesn't matter if you are willing to adapt. No one besides Cignetti and his staff could've saw Indiana becoming a juggernaut in football as IU had never had a 10+ win season until they arrived in 2024. Texas could become a top 3 SEC program in men's hoops if they wanted to. That's the key. Are they willing to do it or are they content with being good to great at the other 20 sports on campus and halfarseing the second biggest money maker in their athletic department? This portal window after the men's hoops season is over will tell us everything fans need to know, as will CDC town hall meeting tonight. 2 1 Quote
harveycmd Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Indiana isn't a juggernaut in football. Georgia Tech won a football natty in 1990. Didn't make them a juggernaut. I'd put Texas over Kentucky because of talent base. Not to mention the only basketball fans in the world more delusional than Kentucky fans are Cuban infected Mavs fans. Quote
Jerky Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Obviously KY should be #1. Arkansas has had a more consistent winning mbb tradition than Florida but I'm a bit surprised Florida was 5th after their 3 NCs in the 2000s. Florida has 2 more NCs than Ark and has outperformed Arkansas head to head 28-15. I lean Florida #2 since we are talking job rankings of today. Texas has a strong national brand, new stadium and money but I would put us #4 in mbb. Our money has not been all in on mbb. TX fanbase interest and support seems to wane more so when we are not good compared to other passionate basketball programs. TN #5 imo. A&M should not be in the top 6 imo. Non-blue bloods like UConn, Florida, Arizona, Villanova, Michigan State, Houston, etc, etc. are better than Kentucky. It's not 1996. Quote
tylerlindsey2111 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago @Gerry Hamilton thoughts? Goodman seems to always base these off of coaches he talks to. 1 Quote
MBHORNSFAN Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Not sure how you be a top basketball job with only top 25-30 NIL... 1 Quote
harveycmd Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) On Kentucky: Calipari is and was a used car salesman, recruiting shyster. No one in basketball thinks he could outcoach a real high school guy. That's why he continuously lost with more talent. That's why Kentucky hasn't been real since Pitino. Their fan base is rotten. Edited 1 hour ago by harveycmd Quote

Coaches think highly of the Texas job for sure: State produces a lot of NBA talent - Tyrese Maxey, Cade Cunningham, Julius Randle, Myles Turner, Jarret Allen, Keyonte George, Anthony Black, Tre Johnson, Ron Holland, Jaylon Tyson, Quentin Grimes, Marcus Smart, Jordan Clarkson, Jordan Walsh, Jarred Vanderbilt, Micah Peavy Moody Center and practice facility is one of best great city (plus a lot of former NBA guys live there now too and have kids coming up - LaMarcus Aldridge, Chris Bosh, etc... KD will part time when he retires I hear) power conference Could/should have enough NIL support ... city to push NIL support Nike contract Has face of Texas basketball engaged in program that is an all-time great - KD etc... And one other thing that makes it attractive ... you go get it done and get to a couple of FF's or actually cut the nets down - court will have your name on it. Never been done before. Opportunity to leave a legacy. 1 1 Quote

KY mbb has struggled with outcomes on the court but KY spends much more on their players. For the 2025-26 season, the Kentucky Wildcats reportedly hold the most expensive men's basketball roster in the SEC and all of college basketball, with a reported NIL payroll of approximately $22 million. This figure is unprecedented in college basketball, far exceeding the typical $10 million range of other top-tier programs. Passionate fan support and their huge NIL budget make blue blood KY the most attractive of the SEC today imo. Agree to disagree on blue blood KY being behind Texas, Florida and Auburn today. Texas could rise above but we aren't there yet. Ditto for Florida but they are closer to KY than TX. Auby has a good coach and team on the rise but they are behind Arkansas as best job imo. Auby seems to be getting more bang for the buck. But Auby spends less on their coach and players than Arkansas. Arkansas has done a better job of prioritizing mbb on a long term basis. What are we talking about? Don't care how much they spent this year. We talkin billions to millions when it comes down to it. Let's go back to 1996 when Kentucky actually mattered. If you based your view on what was then, you'd take Delk, Walker, etc. But who was really gonna be the best? Not Kentucky goobers. Even Pitino told you who was the best that draft night.
