And worked out at the gym with him. He told me that he had 37 3/4" in thighs and 28" waist. So, even though he may have only weighed about 220 lbs, his 220 was not like anyone else's 220! I asked him once, what's it like to be rich and famous? He quipped, "it's not all it's cracked up to be." HOOKEM 4 Quote

HOOKEM I was a sophomore on the Forty Acres when Earl was a Freshman and I watched him play almost every snap... including most games on the road. His RB skills were unquestionable, but I remember a couple of times when he came in, lined up in the middle of the D line and broke through and blocked the punt attempt. He was the definition of "special." Hook 'Em! 9 1 Quote

I never saw him play live in college just NFL. I actually was at his first pre season Oiler game where he didn't do anything. Some idiot behind me was talking "same old Oilers this RB is going to be a bust. Earl broke it out against Dallas in there last pre season game, had over 150 yds. Back in the late 70"s teams played there starters for almost entire game in last pre season game. I also saw live the famous run against the Rams in 1978, where he ran over the ALL Pro Linebacker. 1 1 Quote
NBHorn64 Posted Monday at 11:11 PM Posted Monday at 11:11 PM As a kid I was lucky enough to meet Earl after a home game. Family knew one of the manager for the Longhorns and he got me into the locker room after the game. I was in complete awe, but we was so nice to me. I will remember that forever. 2 1 Quote

I remember his first 2 carries in college. Ran up the middle for what was supposed to be a dive play. He dragged tacklers to a first down. 2nd play? dive play...same thing...the crowd was grasping for air! 1 1 Quote

It was such a shame that Roosevelt Leaks hurt his knee before his senior year when Earl was a freshman. 4 1 Quote
Mr. Roboto.Sr. Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I met Earl a few years ago around lunchtime on 6th Street back in the early 2000's and watching him walk made me hurt as he seemed like his old injuries were painful and getting worse. He gave and took so much punishment, it's not hard to understand why. He was incredibly nice and we chatted as we walked to our parked vehicles. Earl seemed like a really good dude to be on your team and lead your locker room. 1 1 Quote

For those of us who saw Earl play for the Longhorns and the Oilers it's a great trip down Memory Lane. I've been privileged because my Dad took me to see the Dallas Cowboys play the Cleveland Browns in the Cotton Bowl Stadium in the early 1960s and I saw the great Jim Brown. Bob Lilly, "Mr Cowboy" and Jim Brown played hard and then threw punches at each other to end the game. As I posted elsewhere on this thread, I was a student at Texas during Earl's days playing for Coach Royal. And I saw Earl play for the Oilers as a young man after graduating from UT in the "Luv Ya Blue" days in Houston. I watched Ricky Williams play for the Longhorns when I was a season ticket holder a few years later, and he was one of the best for Texas. My Dad and many others always said Jim Brown was the greatest. I was just a little kid back then, but I never question Jim Brown at the top. And Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams were right there with Brown. Bum Phillips said it didn't take long to call the Role of the greats, but Earl's name had to be called. Earl was a special player.
