That’s literally how you are supposed to do it. The bigger issue, IMO, is the setting up down the middle no matter what. He could get more strike calls (and likely provide a better target) by positioning his body where the pitch is intended to go. It puts him at a disadvantage to where his movements are seen far too easily by the umpire (and are distracting). I’m sure there’s a rationale behind it, but I personally don’t like it. Quote

When I grew up playing catcher a long time ago, the catcher's mitt was always the target. And the catcher would move as desired for the pitch. If the catcher it's going to make the target disappear in the wind up, why put it up at all???🤔🤔 Quote
