Before his injury, Marcos Paz was viewed as a legitimate first-round MLB Draft talent and was ranked as high as the No. 2 high school pitching prospect in the entire national 2025 class.

His ERA last year started with the number 9.

We have plenty of high upside guys with HS pedigree already on the roster. If they only want to add 1 or 2 pitchers, it should be more proven arms.

ERA can be misleading. You can pitch 3 perfect innings, then in the fourth load the bases with no outs, leave the game, and the next guy gives up a grand slam. That’s an ERA of 9.00 even though no one crossed the plate while you were on the mound.

If we go after this guy, I am sure our staff will do a little more in depth research than just looking at his ERA

Sure, in small sample sizes it is misleading. When you have almost 30 innings, it’s usually pretty accurate of how you pitched.

He is a project. That was my point. And when you have a limited number of slots available, you usually want more of a sure thing than 27 walks in 29 innings.
