OTF Premium Steve Sarkisian's Post-Practice Press Conference: Longhorn open fall camp

We're roughly 30 minutes away from Steve Sarkisian meeting with the media after Wednesday's camp practice, which was the first for the Longhorns.

We'll have updates from Sark coming off the practice field, with 31 days remaining until Texas opens the 2026 season at home against Texas State.

Sark says Texas had 5 cramps today, “it was one of our least cramped days” on a first day. 

Sark joked that year one there were probably 38.

A lot of focus put on body preparation going into day to day of fall camp.

Sark says it was a good day for Arch Manning on day one.

Sarkisian says the staff tries to make practice as intense as possible with the added idea of “group punishment” for penalties to help get that number down in 2026.

Sarkisian says Ian Geffrard has dropped about 25 pounds since arriving in the winter.

“One thing I was impressed with today… I thought our coaches were getting after it today.”

Sark says he felt his coaches today make an impact on day one of practice. Mentions how important they are to the culture.

For the freshmen, the biggest key or point of emphasis for Sarkisian when asked what the best indicator might be for those guys to contribute immediately:

”do they know what to do consistently.”

“Being really efficient and having a strong rapport with the receivers and offensive line.”

would classify as a successful fall camp for Arch says Sarkisian.

On overall depth: “it feels good” after day one.

On the 2025 class: Sarkisian says there is a real developmental aspect to that class entering year two that gets forgotten in a world of instant gratification.
