Hypothetical Question

To further add to my response to @jkates' comment, Urban Meyer is another coach who elevated his coordinators while overseeing the offense without being the play-caller. Mike Sanford (Utah), Dan Mullen (Florida), Tom Herman (Ohio State) and Ryan Day (Ohio State) all got head coaching gigs after calling plays under Meyer.

exactly. It can still be Sarks offense and influence in the scheme, but there needs to be a true play caller that can handle offense prep, game day calls, and mid game offensive adjustments while Sark Manages the whole team. Heck Sark could even still call plays on gameday, but he needs that help. Andy Reid, Sean McVay, and Joe Brady have “OCs” but still call plays. But those OCs actually have more of an OC role. I think Gundy was the same.

What’s crazy is the regression and still taking the position that he can do it better than anyone he could hire. I think he’s a great head coach but facts are facts about how many championship winning head coaches call plays.
