A quick update to the 2024 redshirt tracker for the freshman class.Screenshot2024-10-29at10_22_19AM.thumb.png.660191921d9ebed24826ea5dd68a0da6.png

– DB Jordon Johnson-Rubell saw four snaps on special teams and his redshirt was burned as a result this weekend.

– No other surprises at the moment.

– The official stat sheet had Jordan Washington having played in this game but accredited him with a QB Hurry. I am checking on this now, but after a rewatch, I did not see No. 84 on the field on Saturday, preserving his redshirt status.

Hey CJ, happy tuesday to you! Wanted to ask your thoughts on JJR and Kobe Black playing this weekend, Black played more snaps and didn’t necessarily need to play more because of an injury like in JJR’s case. Has he simply earned more snaps through great practice? Also is there any chance he gets a shot at safety in the future with his size and length?

Black is a corner through and through. He was a guy that has come along tremendously since the start of the season and has earned the reps through consistent practice.

Kobe Black looked really physical live. People in the stands were talking about him quite a bit.

The toughest part of college football is the attrition. You start with a full roster and it gets depleted throughout the season. We've had so many key players suffer season ending injuries. The only real chance to combat the attrition is to develop the freshmen so that they can play effectively down the stretch. Kobe is one of those guys.

He really did take advantage of his snaps on Saturday. Again, only nine snaps with him on the field and you could argue he had an entire game's worth of highlights from the cornerback position. Really, really encouraging in regards to his long term potential for Texas.

Worth noting that Aaron Butler suited up for this game and traveled on Saturday. He had not previously suited up for the last five games or so. Perhaps a reward for a nice week of practice.

Kobe Black highlights.

Ant Hill is such a smart player ... notice on the INT how he looks around and finds a guy coming up behind Black who might be able to make a play, and Hill screens him off without risking a penalty.

And this is the first time I've seen the play (no SEC Network) - didn't look like much of a penalty by VB from that angle, though it did look like Sorrell might have raked the QB across the face (face mask?) as he went by.

So glad we got Mack and Black in this class.
