Vandy QB Diego Pavia sues NCAA, want two more years eligibilty

Recommended Posts

He spent two years in junior college but is now claiming those years should not count against his college eligibility.  No doubt he figures two more years of NIL would be better than getting a job.

Crazy. An unexpected side effect of NIL.

Any lawyers out there (Mark in Austin?), what do you think his chances of winning are?

"Pavia argues in the lawsuit that counting junior college seasons toward years of NCAA eligibility "unjustifiably restrains" the ability for college athletes like himself to earn money through their name, image and likeness for the full four seasons."

I will be closely monitoring this case.   Although I’m now 52, I didn’t have the opportunity to receive NIL as a college athlete so if he wins I’m filing suit and plan to return to the diamond in 2026.     With that said I’m now entertaining NIL offers in preparation for my return

I heard his lawyer talk about this over the weekend. I was not especially impressed. A major point was that redshirt rules are quirky. If you get hurt after the fourth game (football), you've lost the year. However, now players can play in four games, plus the entire postseason, which now could be four more games. Additionally, JC shouldn't count because NIL isn't available at that level.

What's missing is that you have to come in as a marketable player in order to be paid immediately. A high-D-I backup QB might get paid in Year one, but I think he's looking at what he is now and what he missed out on before and thinking he deserved it all along. That's wishful thinking.
